It's not really a joke, astroid deflection is now NASA's top priority. As of now, an astroid 2 miles wide has a 1:250 chance on entering our keyhole in 2036.

Another Tunguska would simply wipe out Milwaukee or something. I'm ok with that.

Sorry friend, but unless you want to share the dog's food, my Costco 1 year emergency food kit doesn't factor in for another human being.

Some friend you are. Reid and I will perish elsewhere.

Oh, about that...

The Tunguska comet would have been about 1/200th the size of this one. At the very least, it would wipe out half the U.S., but the nuclear winter that would follow would be the real problem.

Asteroids don't kill people. Nuclear winter kills people.

I'm just glad that, at the end of the day, Washington understands that my immediate wants and conveniences are far more important than anything that will ever happen to my kids.

Perfect example of the issues that arise when relying on news and blog sites for information about any topic. Information gets diluted to the point of info graphics and 5 paragraph posts...which is a necessity of the format, but nevertheless destructive to overall discussion. There's no better way to be sure you don't know much about any large-scale issue than to rely on the news to inform you, I think. That's not a dismissal of news agency work...just a note about the scale of those topics and the realities of that particular form of media.

A few of these discuss the issue the graphic is attempting to display in full, while the rest include sections or comments related to addressing it.
