I thought it was. And also, more recently, they said in one or two interviews that they wanted to tour less and concentrate on doing records. Can't remember where, or when, but it's something I recall.

I've only read the last 20 pages or so of this thread, and I'm sure plenty of stories with a similar possible moral have been posted but just wanted to point out two things Ed said recently:
1. From the pit, fanview thread for recent solo show: Ed talks about how having children has changed the way he writes songs. He wants to spend as much time with his girls as he can so he finds that he writes songs more quickly. The next song he wrote when his wife and daughters went out to lunch for an hour. He finished in 51 minutes and spent the next nine wondering when they were going to come back because he missed them.
2. When Ed called in to talk to Willie Nelson, praising his veraion of Just Breathe, he said how great it was to hear what Nelson had done with a song for which "the lyrics, if I remember I just jotted them down in my sleep..." Now maybe that's just Ed being humble but in the context it was pretty clear he was suggesting he hasn't put much effort in.

If that's the case maybe Ed can pick out different phrases out of a hat for lyrics to his songs like Yorke did with Kid A. Sometimes you can say so much more with less. I honestly don't care what he has to say anyways, just make better songs.

Current evidence suggests that they can effectively maintain their membership in John Boehner's Mordor Mile Country Club and Bounce House on the basis of about a dozen shows a year, give or take.
