**Loretta Hunt of SI.com reported this morning that she spoke with Bellator C.E.O. Bjorn Rebney and he confirmed that Eddie Alvarez has received a contract offer from the UFC and that Bellator now has a two-week “matching period” to decide if they will push forward to re-sign Alvarez or let him leave.

**Patrick Cote has announced that he is dropping down to welterweight for his next fight following news that Alessio Sakara would not be able to fight Cote at UFC 158 on March 16th in Montreal. Sakara was forced to pull out of the fight due to kidney issues and also wanted the rematch with Cote outside of Canada. It is unknown if Cote will fight someone at 170 on the UFC 158 card but he stated on Twitter he has been thinking about dropping down in weight for a year.

**The Season 7 finale for Bellator this past Friday night averaged 191,000 viewers featuring Alexander Volkov defeating Richard Hale for the vacant Heavyweight title in the finals of this season’s tournament. The show was also scheduled to feature the finals of the Lightweight tournament but before the fight could take place the commission in Indiana would not allow 20-year old Marcin Held to compete due to his age and fighting at a casino.

**Saturday night’s TUF 16 Finale averaged 1,300,000 viewers on FX while the undercard on FUEL TV averaged 104,000 viewers and hence why someone like Mike Pyle was annoyed he was on the undercard of the show.

**Friday night’s UFC on FX 6 card from Australia averaged 972,000 viewers and the undercard on FUEL TV averaged 96,000 viewers.

**Todd Martin at Sherdog.com has an interesting piece on MMA’s Mt. Rushmore at http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/1/ ... more-48395.

**USA Today is reporting that Karlos Vemola has suffered an injury and is off of the UFC 155 card on December 29th where he was scheduled to fight Chris Leben. The same outlet reports that Strikeforce fighter Derek Brunson has verbally agreed to step in and fight Leben on the card. The Leben Vs Vemola fight was originally scheduled for the undercard of UFC 155 but was bumped up to the main card after the Phil Davis Vs Forrest Griffin fight was scratched from the event. The UFC is also working to add the Melvin Guillard Vs Jamie Varner fight to this event but that is not official at this time.

**Cody McKenzie is also off of the UFC 155 card where he was scheduled to fight Leonard Garcia. The UFC is searching for a new opponent for Garcia at this time.

**MMAJunkie.com is reporting that the featherweight bout between Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas is scheduled to be the fourth and final televised bout for the UFC on FOX 6 card coming up on January 26th in Chicago, Illinois. The other three fights scheduled for the broadcast are Demetrious Johnson Vs John Dodson for the Flyweight Title, Quinton Jackson Vs Glover Teixeira and a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis.

**In a mere formality Scott Coker confirmed on Thursday that the January 12th Strikeforce card in Oklahoma City would in fact be the final card from the promotion.

**It is now official that Melvin Guillard and Jamie Varner will have their lightweight fight next weekend at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. The fight has been added to the undercard with Chris Leben Vs Derek Brunson remaining on the main card.

**Bobby Voelker is being moved over to the UFC from Strikeforce to fight Patrick Cote at the UFC 158 card on March 16th in Montreal. This will be a welterweight fight with Cote announcing earlier this week he was cutting down from 185.

**Another Strikeforce fighter being moved over to the UFC roster is Robbie Lawler, who is also cutting down to 170 and will fight Josh Koscheck in his return to the UFC at UFC 157 on February 23rd in Anaheim, California. Lawler hasn’t fought at welterweight since 2004 and left the UFC later that year.

**Invicta FC has announced that their next card on January 5th will be an iPPV event with a price to be determined at a later date. Invicta FC debuted last April to a lot of online fanfare and have run their shows free of charge on their website and also have signed a television deal with Fight Network in Canada to air previous cards on the network. The January 5th event takes place from Kansas City, Missouri and is headlined by Carla Esparza taking on Claudia Gadelha to crown the promotion’s first strawweight champion.

**Happy Birthday to Mauro Ranallo of Showtime Sports, he will be calling the New Year’s Eve card for GLORY and DREAM as well as Invicta FC 4 and the final Strikeforce card over the next few weeks.

**The heavyweight bout between Brendan Schaub and Lavar Johnson that was scheduled for the UFC on FOX 5 card earlier this month has been re-booked for UFC 157 on February 23rd in Anaheim. Both 156 and 157 in February are shaping up to be very solid shows with the fights announced. The 157 card has also just added Chad Mendes, fresh off his quick 1:55 win over Yaotzin Meza this past weekend in Australia, taking on Manny Gamburyan.

**Bellator has announced that Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas will defend his title on February 14th against Eduardo Dantas in Charlotte, North Carolina and will air that night on Spike TV.

**Loretta Hunt of SI.com runs down her ten favorite stories of 2012 at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mma/ne ... mma_t11_a6.

Lauzon is a beast. How he took that much punishment and stayed upright is nuts.
