I don't want to poop at work, but I won't deny my body this basic function. And when I do it... I adhere to one rule: I'm a one man show.

I won't shit in a stall when someone's already shitting in another stall unless it's an emergency. I work on the 3rd floor. If someone is taking a crap in my bathroom, I go down to 2 and check that bathroom, and I'll go to the lobby bathroom if necessary. If I'm clipping a yam and someone comes in and starts crapping, I'll wait him out. I will die on that toilet if necessary. And while I'm waiting the person out, if it is noisy, I'll cover my ears so I don't hear the splashing and grunting.

Is this strange behavior? Do you have any rules/guidelines for pooping at work?

i have no poop rules. if i have to go, i go. i don't care what noises i make or who's in there or what. i'm in a bathroom and it was made for that. i'll even spray some lysol when i'm done.

Public bathrooms are disgusting, just poop in the work fridge or something.

I'm grateful we have a one person bathroom still here. Just leave the fan on if you spray air freshner. That's all I ask.

i stopped in the room outside the office here, and there was a guy in there who was speaking in tongues and it sounded like he was pouring vegetables in the commode.

i tucked away my laugh and left

I follow almost the exact same rules. If someone comes in to piss and/or wash their hands. I will only proceed while there is water (or pee) running so that I cannot be heard. And I wait until the bathroom is empty again before I walk out of the stall.

There's nothing quite like taking a dump on company time. :D

Like Quint, I don't really like to make noises if someone else is in the room, but if I gotta go, that's all there is to it. I prefer not to see my coworkers coming in or out of the stall, and I've pretended to piss at the urinal and then wait for them to leave before entering the stall.

Luckily, I'm a "morning person" and I get to work before most people, so often I don't have to search for a free bathroom.

the sounds and vibrations that resonate from my sphincter releasing both air and waste material is not something fit for humans

I don't think it's shame as much as it is an overdeveloped need for privacy. Also, I will not shit in someone else's house unless (1) I have my own bathroom away from other people or (2) I get up in the middle of the night to do it.
