I looked for an existing thread but there doesn't appear to be one.
I love this band.
But I only have pet sounds (and endless summer on vinyl)
what else is a mandatory purchase?

the beach boys today! (1965) side two is very much an indication of where brian wilson was headed. it also has one of my favorite album openers of all time. and help me rhonda.

The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on

Try out Brian Wilson's "Smile" which was supposed to be the follow-up to Pet Sounds but only got re-recorded and released last year by Brian and a new batch of guys.
It's got a lot of weird stuff going on and I think had the original Beach Boys done it back in 68 it wouldn't blown people's minds. Those original tapes are still out there I guess, unless Brian ate them. That was the time when he would stay in bed for weeks on end - what a loon.

i also like surf's up. it's one of the later ones, very weird album. but good. it has a very "brian wilson has lost it" vibe to it.
That is an absolutely beautiful track, one of Brian's favorites. You can actually find by following SniffleBiscuit's advice to..

I need to purchase Pet Sounds immediately.
Yes, you do. Afterwards your only regret will be not having bought it sooner.

Get the version I have, with both the Brian Wilson version and the stereo version.
