I recently asked about people's favorite new band since the year 2000.
A lot of people answered with The Mars Volta...another name that came up I think was Kings of Leon. Another example is Death Cab...they always talk about them on the radio but hardly ever play their songs.
My question: Where are you guys hearing this music? I don't recognize these bands from the local radio stations here in Seattle...so where else can I find out about good new bands that don't necessarily make it to mainstream radio.
And if anyone can give me tips specific to Seattle, that would be great. Thanks!

FORSOOTH!
My method is usually this:
1. Someone reccomends me something/I hear about a band
2. Allmusic.com to look up discography
3. Download an album
4. If I like, get more albums, if I don't, leave it at that.
5. If I like enough, buy shit.
fin.

it's really not that hard to hear about new music...
talk to people..
go to message boards for bands you like and see what they're listening to...
listen to college radio stations...
check out other artists on the same labels as some bands that you like/find out about (especially on indie labels)..

this is by far the best possible thread that has ever borne the name "Mars Volta". Thank you, RM

I do things kind of differently I guess. I've been into "indie" rock for a long time now and I usually read up on what members of former bands I like are doing. I also buy a lot of albums by artists that have worked with certin producers i like (Matt Bayles). I check out artists that other bands have menitoned in interviews...ect. I dont usually go to websites for music. I check out things my friends recomend for the most part though and I'll sometimes just download ramndom things on soulseek.
