Now what the heck is wrong with a guy complaining to the league about possibly tainted officiating? He complains about Cuban asking refs to target Yao, and they fine him $100K with a possible ban from the NBA? What is wrong with people?
I'm rooting for the Rockets over Mavs now. Down with Cuban.

I guess Stern is pissed he won't give up his source.
IMO, a ref contacting a head coach and giving info like this seems to be very innapropriate behavior.
On the other hand, if Van Gundy made this up just to get a psychological advantage over the refs, that's pretty bad as well.

this si fucking rediculous....they give him 100,000 dollar fine and possible ban for asking that, which i find to be a reasonable question, and they only gave Ron Artest the rest of the season WHAT THE FUCK, THATS BULLSHIT

I guess if Van Gundy made it up, a possible ban and $100,000 fine would be in order.
However, if Van Gundy can provide the sources, which he seems to have done, I think he should be able to make that complaint. It seems like Stern didn't even want to consider it, and just dismissed his comments as "inappropriate."
The way it looks right now, though, Van Gundy did not deserve this. If he's right, the referees and Cuban should get the fine and the ban. Of course, Cuban's the one with the $$$, so he's going to get his way.
I wouldn't have expected Van Gundy to be the one under such tough scrutiny.
I think all he has to do is give up the guy who e-mailed him.
I'm curious to see what (if any) legal action he takes. that's a pretty stiff fine. It's not like he has a union like the Players Association to go to bat for him, so I'm assuming it would have to be his own lawyers.

I'm with you.
That's a ridiculous fine. Can Best Buy fine a store assistant manager if he speaks out against a policy? Where's the precedent that allows the NBA to levy massive, massive fines against coaches and players for merely opening their mouths? Who CARES what Van Gundy says. Unless it's true, I'm not sure what the NBA is so worried about.
I just don't understand what gives the NBA the power to dock someone's wages. I can't think of any other employer that can do that.

Hopefully this leads to the demise of the NBA. The league worn out its welcome with me personally, and i know alot of other who couldnt give a shit about it.

Props to Yao for volunteering to pay half the fine, though.
I got back into basketball this season, but this is putting a bad taste in my mouth.
The fine is udderly ridiculous. A lifetime bad? Are the nucking futs? I cannot wait to see what comes of this and if the refs are at fault I hope that the shit hits the fan, big time.
