There was some great discussion with the Reggie Miller thread...now let's try this one on for size:
Obviously Ray-Ray is NOT at the Superstar status level. The fact that he'd been buried in Milwaukee for most of his career didn't help. Seattle's not exactly a big spot on everyone's radar either. People would probably hype Ray a lot more if he played for, say, the Knicks.
We'll see what kind of playoff run the Supes can make, then see if the media starts making a big deal about "The Jesus"...but at this point, I'd have to say that Ray Allen will never be considered a Superstar.
So I guess the question is: Where would you rank Ray amongst the rest of the league. Do you think he'd be a bigger star if he had spent his career in a big media market?

Wow...that's pretty high.
I don't know if he's quite up there near the top 10...but again, if he had spent his whole career so far in NY or LA...or maybe w/ the Spurs...he'd get a lot more hype and I think more people would agree that he's floating around the top 10.

Ok, I am going to forget for a second that he is one of my 2 favorite Sonics player, so that this post isn't biased.
I honestly think that Ray Allen is a superstar. He can shoot well from anywhere on the court, whether its in 3 or 2 point range. He is also good at the free-throw line. One of the reasons why the Sonics have been so good this season is because of Ray Allen. He is very dangerous if he has the ball. If you look at his stats since 96-97 you will see that he has been pretty consistent in his career.
A lot of people counted the Sonics out this year, but they have proved that they can win and that they do have some really good players on the team. I think that critics will finally start to notice what kind of player Allen is.
Five-time All star
Bucks all-time leader in 3-pointers made (1,501)
Has 3 career triple-doubles
Career totals:
Field goal % (37.1)
3-point % (.446) (1,277)....ranked 10th in the NBA
Free-throw & (.885)...ranked 9th in the NBA
Points per game (20.6)

If we're talking performance, if you consider Kobe a superstar, Allen's a superstar. And if Reggie Miller's a superstar, Allen's most definitely a superstar.

kobe drove phil and shaq out of town?
shaq and his agent was planning for a trade in january of 2004
i think shaq drove himself out of town:
publicly cursing out the owner at a preseason game. which was one of the stupidest things i have ever seen.
not showing up in shape every year
turning down a 40 million dollar extension.
kobe gets too much credit for what happen with the lakers. phil admitted in his own book that he asked jerry buss for a ridiculous amount of money so he would not be asked to coach

Even if he didn't drive them out, he's not doing shit without them. So my point still stands.

you can't deny that kobe was a big part of those championships.
And you don't think Ray Allen would have been as successful as Kobe if he had been in his shoes?

that's not the point. sports aren't about "if" statements. kobe has 3 titles, ray 0.

Jud Buechler's got a bunch of titles, too. Is he better than Ray Allen?

first of all, no, because he was not the huge part of those titles like bryant was to the lakers'.
this isn't about who is better than who, it's about being a superstar.
