2 months ago, with I being 18 and far too young to appreciate the film when it first came out, I began my appreciation for the artist known as Spike Lee and his most famous film when I viewed 'Do The Right Thing' on Black Starz at my cousin's house for the first time. Needless to say, when I got back home, I immediately rented the movie and showed it to my mom and persuaded others to borrow it off of me. Since that time, I have rented 'Jungle Fever', which even though it is not the most consistent movie STILL has one of the most moving endings, not only b/c of the shooting or b/c of Wesley's 'NO!' but also b/c of Stevie Wonder's song playing during the credits, and '25th hour', which was another impressive movie.
Wanted to start this thread because i feel that, like Pearl Jam, Spike Lee creates films to make people think, in some way for not every movie is about racism or prejudice but every movie that Spike creates DOES have a point for the audience to reflect on even after the film has ended. Just wanted to ask other PJ fans what their fav. Spike Lee films are and if there are a few here who have not seen a Spike Lee film or are new to his collection (like I), then they can be given some tips. And also, I had a quick question, which should be rented next-School Daze or Mo' Betta Blues?

Man, I have very little Spike Lee experience. I don't remember particularly liking any of these very much. Not to knock him, his movies just don't really resonnate with me, white man that I am.
Here, I tried to rank what I've seen.
Summer of Sam (1999)
Do the Right Thing (1989)
25th Hour (2002)
Bamboozled (2000)
The Original Kings of Comedy (2000)

I'll do a ranking later, but I saw Bamboozled again recently and I think it's really under-appreciated. Sure it's hard to sit through and varies hugely in tone, but I think it's a hilarious, tragic, amazing movie. Spike Lee is one of the best American directors, that's for sure.

If I had to rank the ones I've seen:
25th Hour Do The Right Thing Crooklyn Malcolm X He Got Game Bamboozled Summer of Sam Girl 6
The first two are probably equal, and I love everything before Summer of Sam. Simply put, Spike Lee is a goddamn genius. His movies are incredibly entertaining and insightful and he has a lot of trademarks as a director that few others would attempt, like the "float cam" that is in a lot of his work. I love the guy's stuff and I'm looking forward to seeing all of it.
