The Broncos signed wide receiver Jerry Rice to a one-year contract Wednesday. Rice is expected to compete for the No. 3 or No. 4 receiver role.

Rice's ties to Broncos coach Mike Shanahan helped land him the job… and, oh yeah, his resume is pretty good, too. Rice will likely spend as much time serving as mentor to Ashley Lelie and Darius Watts as he does as a factor in the offense.

It's kind of a shame to watch what has become of his career. We are talking about the greastest reciever ever and probably one of the best to ever play in the NFL! Damn 49er's!

I kind of agree. If the Seahawks couldn't find a way to incorporate him in their offense, I don't see how the Broncos will. If they brought him in to be a coach or mentor, then they should make him one and free up a roster spot.
I just don't see him producing -- especially when it's snowing and 20 degrees on a Sunday night game in October.

why? if you were good at football and a team wanted to pay you to play it in the NFL would you play?
Because you have a legacy to protect. The guy hardly needs the money. To some younger people that weren't around for or don't remember his career days at SF, they are only going to remember the old, broken down Jerry Rice riding the pine going from team to team after not being signed by SF. I'm sure it's not what he wants to be known for.
jerry rice is the greatest receiver to ever play football. no matter how bad he is won't change that. his legacy, just like willie mays', just like steve carlton's, just like greg maddux's, will always be in tact.
