Let's have target practice while little kids roam around in camoflage! What a great idea! Bunch of fucking idiots we have here.

4-Year-Old Boy Shot, Killed in Minnesota

Mon May 30, 9:26 AM ET
Associated Press

A 4-year-old boy was fatally wounded when he wandered behind a paper target while family and friends were practicing shooting, authorities said.

Evan Davis Klassen, of Chisago City, was shot around 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Lake Vermilion, where a group of about a dozen people had gathered for the Memorial Day weekend.

"They thought they had the kids under control," said Sgt. James McKenzie of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department.

While the paper target didn't completely obscure the child, he was wearing camouflage pants that made him difficult to see against the foliage, McKenzie said.

A 40-year-old man fired a handgun about 30 feet through the target and into the boy, he said.

McKenzie called the shooting as "a pretty straightforward accident" and said no charges were likely to be filed. The man's name and relationship with the boy were not released.

After the shooting, people rushed the boy to a nearby lodge. Emergency medical workers arrived, but there was nothing they could do, McKenzie said.

Absolutely senseless.

I've done target practice before. It's not bad if you're not a fricking idiot. Who lets a little kid wander off while guns are in use?

I don't understand how they don't plan on filing any charges. Maybe not on the individual who killed the boy, but the person who was supposed to be in charge of him. What kind of negligent parent/caregiver would allow something like this to happen?

This whole scenario reeks of negligent behavior, from the fact that people were having target practice while children were in the vicinity, that the kid was wearing camoflage, and that nobody noticed that he got in the area of the targets.

Fucking sad :(

aren't you supposed to put something behind the target you are using to stop the bullet, so this sort of thing doesn't happen?

Yes. But these people don't seem to care about safety.

Every target I've seen had some sort of metal sheet behind it, and they usually have a dirt wall behind that. Idiots.

This reeks of negligent manslaughter to me.
When you are actively using firearms you're sort of responsible for making sure there's no people directly behind your targets. The shooter should be charged with some sort of negligence, whatever MN laws allow.

They should definitely sue the manufacturer of the pants for failing to warn individuals of the difficulty of seeing the wearer in forests and high grass.

They need to also get the paper company for not making their paper bullet-resistant.

I will vouch for his parents and grandparents that they are not fucking idiots.

The little boy, Evan, was my wife's cousin. It was really sad getting the call from my mother-in-law Sunday night telling us what had happened. We saw Evan and his parents a couple of weeks ago at a birthday party. He was a really cute kid and we are going to miss him. I know his family is going through hell. I dread going to the funeral Friday - I hate funerals but they are especially sad when it's for someone so young.

I too am extremely sorry for what has happened Travis. I apologize if my comment was harsh, it's just hard to understand how something like this can happen. Personally, I'd never have my kids anywhere near someone shooting guns, which makes it even harder for me to understand.

it's not the fact that they were firing guns that's the problem.

the child was not responsibly being watched.
