I don't know space island one! maybe we should start a thread for obscure & fun sci-fi shows, somewhere where's there's no contention.

this is probably my favourite sci-fi show. unfortunately for me, it was rather short lived (only two seasons) and my local pbs channel decided to stop running it on it's sci-fi friday night line-up.

the plot is pretty basic: there were seven people living on a space station called "unity" in the year 2005. they all work for a high profile research company back on earth. they grow hydroponic tomatoes. it's good stuff.

also, one of the space stations guys was incredibly cute and had a really fanatstic british accent. that's probably why i started watching.

I think Dr. Who is supposed to be a ripoff of Sherlock Holmes, yet he time travels in a phone booth.

That's the feeling I always got.

This isn't really obscure, but I loved me some Quantum Leap back in the day.

MANTIS on Fox. It was on before X-Files and involved a handicapped dude who made this suit that allowed him to walk and kick criminal ass. Of course, the thing was ugly as hell. So there's no way it would ever sell.

So he goes and does what all fictional characters with well-balanced moral barometers do: become a costumed superhero.

It wasn't very compelling, so that's why it got canned and became one of many Fox shows that die early. It got replaced by V5 or something like that.

Automan. I was hooked on this weird show for a while. it tried to cash in on the effects used in the movie Tron. That strategy backfired.

cripes, I didn't see this thread until just now.

Dr. Who was the weirdest show .. the guy playing the Doctor would change every few seasons - he would get reborn or something. I liked it best when he was played by Tristan from All Creatures Great and Small (was I a PBS freak? :D ) but gawd, the plots were so unwieldly.

the Dr. Who fans are at least as nerdy as the Trekkies - for instance,
