When was the last time a left handed thrower played a position other than outfield, pitcher, or first basemen in MLB?

I realize that it would be a little bit more awkward for a left handed thrower to throw from other positions, but it seems strange that there's no left handed person that's just so compellingly good at one of these positions that he plays it anyway.

Doesn't he throw right handed?

I think the disadvantage of throwing lefty from 2B, SS, or 3B would be great enough to offset any other considerations when you get to the major league level of play.

I am a bit surprised that there haven't been lefty catchers though.

Thanks. I didn't realize there had been one so recently.

I guess. Still, there's even been a pitcher who only has one hand but was still good enough to make the majors and throw a no hitter.

Okay, after doing some searches on Benny Distefano, I found (on another message board) that the last three left handed catchers were:

1989 - Benny Distefano (Pirates)
1980 - Mike Squires (White Sox)
1958 - Dale Long (Cubs)

Exactly. If they had to range to their right to field a grounder it would be really tough to get the guy at first.
