I'm leaning towards no.

Perez should be on the all-star team, over Garciaparra :D

speaking of which, why are the stupid fans voting to send garciaparra to the all-star game? he only played 16 games. clint barmes was the best nl short stop, but he got injured, so that means he'll just be sitting around if he goes. (better than falling down stairs and breaking your clavicle)

as for perez, why shouldn't he go? he's hitting .307 with seven homers and 26 rbis. he's the best everyday shortstop in the NL. i see that no one backed up whether or not he should go with some cold hard facts.

Cesar Izturis is the best NL shortstop.

why? because he's hitting .310 and his obp is 20 points better? perez has hit 6 more homers, but their numbers are pretty comparable. barmes was clearly the stand-out shortstop in the league. in my fantasy league, felipe lopez on cincy is the best after barmes, hitting wise... of course. .309, 10 hr, 35 rbis.

everyone needs to stop judging players based on fantasy baseball league stats. Izzy is thee best fielding ss in the NL hands down, is a great leadoff hitter, and a clutch hitter at that. and until a recent slump was up at the top of the NL Leaders for BA.

not to mention Barnes is now out for a long long time.

Izzy is the best SS in baseball for sure.
His clutch ability is debateable. He's only .246 with runners in scoring position but he's .500 in close and late situations. If you look at his splits though, he's a much better hitter with no one on base than he is with guys ready to score. But I'm not sure how you're defining "clutch".
Great leadoff hitters get on base and steal more bases too. He's certainly good, but far from great. Izzy has been really good, i'm not taking anything away from his year.

IMO, getting loads more extra base hits, more HR, and more RBI is far more valuable than great defense. So I vote Lopez. Izzy can be on my bench.

are you talking about just the national league Eric?

cause surely that should say Miguel Tejada if you are talking all of baseball.

and remember folks, the question propsed was is Neifi Perez a "superstar", not an "all-star".
