This deserves it's own thread. Stats-wise, Lee wins the starting All-Star nod. However, it's hard to ignore Pujols previous years and how he's been snubbed for MVP because of Roid Bonds. So my compromise?
Lee gets the all-star nod. Has always been better defensively, and now is better offensively as well. Pujols started out slow, where Lee has just mashed all year.
NL MVP goes to the one whose team makes the playoffs, because I really doubt that both will.
Is that fair?

plain and simple pujols is the best player in baseball. and at the end of the year pujols will have the better numbers and win MVP. in all honesty pujols could go down as the best player in history.

If I was building a team for the future, I would pick Pujols.
If we were playing a quick game of pick up ball at the field, and I had the 1st pick, I would pick Lee over Pujols.
I would also put Lee in the all-star game ahead of Pujols.

The Cubs would be about 15 games under .500 if not for Lee. That is the main thing I think of when determining MVP. Lee has better offensive numbers, has a better glove (he'll win the Gold Glove) and is a threat on the bases. I'm not arguing Lee is better than Pujols, just that Lee should win the MVP if the voting was today.

The season isnt half over yet. Way to early to be talking about MVP.
exactly. Vlad pretty much won it in the last week of the season last year.

If the MVP were to be doled out today, I'd give it to Derek Lee. But if I were building a team, I'd take Pujols first, since he has these kind of years every year, whereas Lee has never had a year even remotely this good.

too soon to say. I think Pujols will have better numbers at the end of the year. The Cardinals are going to the play offs and probably the world series. But, if Cubs get the wild card, then the MVP goes to Lee.

comparing derrek lee to albert pujols is insane... sure, they have been comparable for just over 2 months of ONE season, but that's it... wait till the end of the year or at least give it till the all-star break... but june is much too early to get excited about anything, and i'm pretty surprised that a cub fan doesn't recognize that
oh, there is one thing that lee is better at than pujols, defense... give him the gold glove for all i care, cause he deserves it

If we're talking gold gloves there's a guy in NY named Mietkiewicz...

Mientkiewicz doesn't hold a candle to Derrek Lee defensively. He has probably save Aramis Ramirez 5 errors already this year. And he is buy far the smartest defender I've ever seen. You never see him make a stupid play, period.
Also, a lot of the time GG winners are given because of their offensive season as well.

And a lot of people would say the same exact think about Mientkiewicz. I'm not exactly nominating Mike Piazza here.

Surely someone named "ChiJam" isn't biased toward the Cubs at all.

Which the point of this thread. No one said that Lee was better than Pujols over the two players' careers.
but he was forecasting mvp winner... let's see how the other 3 1/2 months play out before we go handing out any hardware...
by the way, i think the cubs and cards will both make the playoffs (as our division is worthless from there)... the east will beat up on each other too much, and the west sucks
the cards handing it to the cubs in the nlcs wont be as nice as carolina beating illinois, but it will be up there (sorry chris, it's been a while)
