So it seems that the plans for this thing are going to be unvieled tomorrow after years of rumors and speculation. Sigh...

What's even worse than a "State of the Art" Stadium replacing a Retro Stadium.

Is this,

A New "Retro-Style" Stadium replacing a Historical Retro Stadium.

new yankee stadium? steinbrenner's completely lost it. no one will care about the yankees now. you can't knock down wrigley, fenway, or yankee. they're a link to our past. fuck the future.

They've been saying they won't tear the old one down, but keep it for events, youth baseball clinics, etc.

I've heard some rumors that the currrent Yankee Stadium isn't actually going to be demolished. It might be kept as a monument or something, so those that want to "push the button" might be disappointed. We'll probably find out later today. Still, I haven't heard from a Yankee fan that likes this plan.

i can't see them keeping up a facility that large and spending $100,000's a year to keep the place up and running just so some kids can play baseball there and have fred mcgriff with his high hat come in and run a baseball clinic with tom eunanski. They'll keep it up for the first year or two then tear it down.

from what I've read, the current stadium is going to be modified so that it makes economic sense to keep it open for such things. It's not like there's going to be a 55,000 seat stadium for little league games. I think they're primarily going to keep the exterior and the facade.

I'm all for a new stadium.

The current one certainly has a lot of history, but we all know it's not the same place that Ruth, Gehrig, Joe D. and Mantle played in. That stadium was gone forever after 1973.

I've been to a few of the newer stadiums, and then when I go to Yankee stadium I feel like Yankee fans are missing out.

i hope they do the same here in boston. sure fenway is historic, and a nice novelty for someone who goes there once a year or once every few years. But if you go there for a lot of games each year it just wears on you. the leg room is non-existent, shoulder room works only if anorexic, seats face the wrong way, parking? what parking?, it's just old and time for some more seats. Build a nice 47,000 or so seat stadium... it's time. I've been to a couple of the new stadiums, and they are fantastic. Baseball stadiums can be built with character (unlike hockey and basketball arenas).... you can be assured if this was to happen in Boston it would be done right.... people need to let go.

it's funny, I'm friends with several Sox fans from Boston and they all say pretty much the same thing: the Sox fans who want to keep Fenway don't actually go to games.

Its fine with me. The Yankees are going to be paying for ALL the building costs. The best part is the new stadium is going to have a stop for the Metro North Rail Line, so now coming from CT, you dont have to get off at 125th St (Harlem) and then take the subway.
