I can't believe I missed this post earlier. Scioscia is a good guy and he was just standing up for one of his players. Bammer, as a Mariners fan I can see hating a division rival... but I don't understand how anyone can hate Scioscia... Mike Scioscia epitomizes everything that baseball's about.
As for the incident the other night, I think he had every right to get in Frank Robinson's face. Robinson went out of his way to point out something that many pitchers use. Plus, you know that Jose Guillen tipped him off. The Nationals are a National League team, so they probably don't know that much about the Angels or any other AL team. But, coincidentally, there is a bitter Nationals player who was cut by the Angels last year for being a little bitch-- Jose Guillen, and he probably wanted to get back at Scioscia.
John Kruk (who, like Scioscia, is a real baseball guy) was explaining earlier today that pine tar isn't like sandpaper insofar as it's not used to change the ball's movement. Pitchers use it to get a better grip on their breaking ball which is what Donnelly was doing. It's not a foreign substance then, because of the prevalence of its use.
Is it still illegal? Yeah. But given the conventions of the game, I'm going to call bullshit on Robinson, Guillen, and the Nationals for acting like pussies and whining about something that a lot of players use.
They were probably also pissed that their winning streak came to an end when the Angels pounded them the other night. I'm glad there's a franchise back in DC, but the Nationals are having a fluke season so far and they'll come back down to earth after the All Star Break. Braves win the NL East again.

The Braves lost a game the other night because the Umpires overturned a homerun call that they correctly made the first time around. On replay it was confirmed the primary call was correctly made by the 3rd base umpire, yet the pussy behind the plate completely out of position to make any call on the ball overturned it.
So score one for Mike S and a Fuck You to Frank Robinson and the Umpires.

good guy, but a little overrated in my opinion. obviously it's their style of play but I don't like how they run into so many outs and their lack of patience at the plate/poor OBP. that, and he's got a bunch
of steroid freaks wearing shop goggles coming out of his bullpen.
