I can't believe I missed this post earlier. Scioscia is a good guy and he was just standing up for one of his players. Bammer, as a Mariners fan I can see hating a division rival... but I don't understand how anyone can hate Scioscia... Mike Scioscia epitomizes everything that baseball's about.
As for the incident the other night, I think he had every right to get in Frank Robinson's face. Robinson went out of his way to point out something that many pitchers use. Plus, you know that Jose Guillen tipped him off. The Nationals are a National League team, so they probably don't know that much about the Angels or any other AL team. But, coincidentally, there is a bitter Nationals player who was cut by the Angels last year for being a little bitch-- Jose Guillen, and he probably wanted to get back at Scioscia.
John Kruk (who, like Scioscia, is a real baseball guy) was explaining earlier today that pine tar isn't like sandpaper insofar as it's not used to change the ball's movement. Pitchers use it to get a better grip on their breaking ball which is what Donnelly was doing. It's not a foreign substance then, because of the prevalence of its use.
Is it still illegal? Yeah. But given the conventions of the game, I'm going to call bullshit on Robinson, Guillen, and the Nationals for acting like pussies and whining about something that a lot of players use.
They were probably also pissed that their winning streak came to an end when the Angels pounded them the other night. I'm glad there's a franchise back in DC, but the Nationals are having a fluke season so far and they'll come back down to earth after the All Star Break. Braves win the NL East again.
Whatever, just a speed bump along the way to the Angels' imminent AL West Crown.

I can really hold a grudge.
that moment when he hit it off Doc to basically save the Dodgers WS run....I will never ever forget that feeling, nor the feeling when Gibby hit the game winner and Orel came out of the bullpen to save it.
Mike Soscia, Ill never say a bad word about the guy, I love him, but when he made that statement I wonder what he did with the memory of Jay Howell getting ejected in game 3 at Shea for having pine tar on his glove...in the NLCS!!!!

Frank Robinson - baseball legend, great manager, Obvious clear liar.
The guy used to head up baseball umpires so they piss on themselves when he argues.
The Braves lost a game the other night because the Umpires overturned a homerun call that they correctly made the first time around. On replay it was confirmed the primary call was correctly made by the 3rd base umpire, yet the pussy behind the plate completely out of position to make any call on the ball overturned it.
So score one for Mike S and a Fuck You to Frank Robinson and the Umpires.
but hey, I guess in the end if you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

In this case:
Frank Robinson = gamesmanship, getting in the opponent's head, and had every right to do so because pinetar is illegal. Who cares if a former Angel tipped him off....that kinda shit happens all the time.
Mike Scioscia = liar. And IMO, made himself look like an idiot by straight up saying that pinetar is NOT illegal. Yes, you're supposed to argue for your team & stick up for your players, but that was ridiculous.

selective memory I suppose.
I hate him the way Sox fans will always hate Mookie. I'm sure he's a nice guy, I just hate him.

Good to see the Nats pulling in passionate fans regardless.
That's a good young team. Nick Johnson and Wilkerson, Guillen etc.

good guy, but a little overrated in my opinion. obviously it's their style of play but I don't like how they run into so many outs and their lack of patience at the plate/poor OBP. that, and he's got a bunch
of steroid freaks wearing shop goggles coming out of his bullpen.
