choose a single cause and devote your energy to that cause. You can't change everything that's wrong in this country, but you can make a big difference locally if you focus your efforts. And that will probably make you feel less overwhelmed by everything else that is out of your control.
Good point, Quint.
OK, folks, you only get one issue. Don't over extend yourself, keep it fairly tight. You can't comment on any others. Write any letters about other issues. Or spend any time volunteering on other issues.
What's your issue?

God, this is hard. I'll go with Gay Rights.

The environment.
I'm the chairman of the environmental commission in my town. We're in charge of open space preservation, advising the planning board on housing development proposals, informing residents about the impacts of non-point source pollution such as lawn chemicals and automotive fluids, etc.

That sounds a little broad to me. Maybe I just need you to expound a little.

Civil rights...and at the moment, specifically GLBT rights.

That's two issues (maybe 3) ... you broke the rules.

Well you take care of all 3 with eliminating the 2 party system. Ok I guess not. Ill go with Gay Rights.
or the legalization of pot
*thinks*
gay rights it is-I guess giving people basic rights and liberties is more important than me being able to buy a pack of Marlboro Greens
So, instead of cutting your original answer down to one issue, you're just going to scrap the whole thing and go with an entirely different issue?

Liberty is a great one. In the context I hold it, it covers a lot of things, but really "live and let live". If people of any sexual orientation / race / religion want to get married, let them. If people want to smoke pot, let them. If people want to drive gas-guzzling SUV with conferate flags and "jesus saves" stickers, let them.
It's not your life so don't mess with it.*
*The corallary is that if you don't want people messing with your liberty, you can't mess with anyone elses.

I'd have to decide between two that I feel most strongly about.
Gay Rights - Because I feel that it is so cut and dry and 100% clear that there is a right and wrong on this issue, so I have zero ambiguity about my position.
Separation of Religion from Government - This I believe is the most dangerous thing facing our country today and the most broadly important.
