I have no idea what RSS is or how to use it. Nor do I need information fed into my computer or phone or whatever.

I'm not sure if you're asking for more info or not ... but

RSS is technology that let's you monitor several news sources and blogs in one window. Basically, you put in the right URL and "subscribe" then everytime the blog or news story updates it adds the headline to your list.

This isn't the one I use, but it's a good example of what I look at:

I just use the "Live Bookmarks" in Firefox. So I have one in my toolbar favs for AP top stories. When I click it, all the headlines of the top stories drop down. I click on one and it takes me to the story. It's really great.

Yeah, and all of the major news sources offer feeds of their subsections (CNN: Entertainment, Top Stories, Health, Politics, etc)
