Did i spell that right? Anyway, i love watching this kid Murray, definitely rooting for him(besides Roddick). The best is when they show Sean Connery making facs in the stands after a point. It's fucking classic Connery. Tim Henman never had the game to win this tourney(or any other grand slam). I think it's great that the Brits have somebody to root for(even though Murray is a Scot). BTW, i haven't seent he results of this match yet, watching the tape delay on espn right now. I bet $20 on Murray getting 2 to 1 odds. I just thought it would be fun to bet on it. It looks good so far.

I balked on starting this thread because I thought nobody else was watching.

Anyways, Wimbledon is my favorite sporting event of the year, Super Bowl included. I got a chance to be there last year and it was something else... anyways, the Murray match is a good one... Nalbandian has a history of playing shitty in big situations and no offense to Murray, but Nalbo is giving this match to the Scot... when/if Nalb. starts to play (I won't tell you how it ends) he's a better player than Murray. But hell yeah, go both Andy's.

I was also watching Nadal, and he'll never put it together on grass... he says he wants Wimbledon more than the others, but his strokes are so loopy and ingrained in him that he'd have to change his entire game around if he wants to win Wimbledon.

And Roddick is definitely not ready for Federer, when/if he faces him. He makes too many errors and has yet to integrate his huge serve into the rest of his game. If Roddick ever learns how to serve and volley like Sampras did, he'll be virtually unstoppable.

Hell yeah! Not much better than Wimbledon time... it's so much better than any other grand slam, too... the all white, the Sean Connery's up in the booths, the bowing, the no playing on Sundays... it's pretty special

Seems like Andy needs to work on his stamina. I knew a decent scottish sportsman was too good to be true.

He was done in the 4th set. He had the talent to win, he just didn't have the legs.

I wonder if they'll move the tournament to Milton Keynes

Oops looks like I'm responsible for killing this thread. :?

Lemme redeem.

Anyone else able to look past Federer for the men's? I think he has the wood over Roddick, and also I don't think Andy's anywhere near the top of his game.

Lleyton looked really good in the first set against Dent, and then lost his way in the 2nd. Got real fired up and Taylor questioned whether or not the umpire and linesmen got intimidated by him. I dunno, I'm an Aussie and all, but I find it hard to root for Lleyton because of his attitude. Especially when Rafter was such a gentleman.

As for the women's... this is hard to call. Sharapova is storming through, but Davenport is back with a vengeance beating Clijsters (who's no shmuck on grass). Who else is left in the draw? Is Venus still there? As a former champ she can't really be counted out either just as yet. Shame Henin-Hardenne got knocked out so early.

Davenport's just decimating her opponents right now... a Davenport-Sharapova final has potential for greatness.

I think Roddick has a shot at beating Federer. Roger hasn't looked 100% and Andy is on a mission. He almost beat him last year and might have if the rains didn't come. Looks pretty obvious that we are gonna have an Andy/Roger finals which should be a classic match.

As for the women, Sharapova looks like she is gonna defend her title. Venus doesn't have the desire, Mauresmo doesn't have the grass game and Davenport seems to run out of gas when she gets to the semis or finals.

My choices: Andy in a big win against Roger and Sharapova slaps Davenport in the final

Meh... Federer had that match on lock... before you can say Roddick almost beat him you have to remember that Roddick came out of the break pretty flat, which is nobody's fault but his... he was playing great tennis, but he only has himself to blame for that loss... I have to give the two-time defending champ a little more respect than that.

I agree that we'll see a Federer-Roddick final, but I disagree on the outcome... I don't see how Roddick can beat the Fed-man... taking a look at previous rounds, Roddick makes the match close when he's making a lot of mistakes (take a look at yesterday's 2nd set)... Federer has been playing like a machine... knowing Roddick, the mistakes will start piling on by the 2nd set of the final and Federer will pounce on every single one... like I've said before, Roddick won't be great until he figures out that serve-volley thing, and he won't beat Federer until he learns how to use it as a weapon. Hell, Roddick has just got to take him to a 5th set first.

And Federer at 80% can still beat Roddick 75% of the time

Trust me, i respect Federer a LOT. I'm very scared that he's gonna beat Pete Sampras' record for Grand Slam wins. He deserved the win last year against Roddick but the rain definitely helped. But that's Wimbledon. That's what makes Pete's 7 out of 8 year run all the more amazing.

Venus just got through after a seriously hard hitting match.

She hasn't a prayer for this Wimbledon though... she's nowhere near her best.

Interesting comments about Roddick... I'm not sure he "needs" to develop a serve-volley game to win it. I used to think this too (since my dad is a huge propenent of s-v).

Too many examples of baseline champs:

Agassi
Lleyton

And most famously of course,

Bjorn Borg.

His time will come when Federer has an ordinary year. Sampras is on record saying that Agassi at his best would almost always beat Sampras at his best. I think Federer at his best will always beat Roddick at his best.

But man, with a kick serve like that 2nd he has, it's criminal that he doesn't come to the net more often.

He's actually pretty good at the net. I think his biggest problem is that he doesn't go to the net enough. he's not bad when he's up their though. As long as he stays healthy i think he will win about 4 slams in the next 3 years.

huh? i'd like to see the link to this quote. Sampras had like a 30-15 record against Andre. Sampras at his best was better than anyone, that quote doesn't make any sense. I know Pete was humble but that quote seems a bit off.

Hey dude, sorry about the spoiler :?

I'm certain about that Sampras quote because I saw him say it live at a press conference or interview and remembered thinking: "wow that's a pretty big thing to say".

I seem to recall it being back in the day when Agassi waws doing the whole pirate thing. I could be wrong about the time, but I'm positve he said it.

Roddick's fitness is his biggest concern for sure... he always has that thing about him where he looks like he's carrying a niggle... kind of like Rafter. Federer on the other hand always looks the fittest player around.

At this rate, Pete's Grand Slam total is in serious danger.
