Hate to say "I told you so", Titans, but you should have picked Antrel Rolle instead.

Titans' top draft pick arrested on charges of assault, vandalism

By TERESA M. WALKER, AP Sports Writer
July 13, 2005
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee Titans top draft pick Adam ``Pacman'' Jones surrendered to police Wednesday on charges of assault and felony vandalism stemming from a fight at a nightclub.

Jones was released from custody after posting bond. He did not comment to reporters as he left the jail.

``If this gentleman was not a Titan, you would not be here,'' Jones' lawyer, Roger May, told reporters.

A Titans spokesman said the team was aware of the situation and was monitoring it but had no immediate comment.

In a court appearance, nightclub owner Robert Gaddy said Jones grabbed his shirt, hit him and broke his necklace after Gaddy asked three of Jones' friends to leave the club. Gaddy told police he asked Jones' friends to leave because ``they were smoking drugs.''

In April, Georgia authorities investigated a report that Jones was involved in a fight in a nightclub near Atlanta in April, but no charges were filed against him in that case.

The 5-foot-10 Jones, who played for West Virginia, was the first defensive player taken in the NFL Draft in April.

He hurt himself in the Titans' rookie orientation on April 29 and couldn't practice with the team until June 14.

But Tennessee took him for his 4.45-second speed in the 40-yard dash and 37 1/2-inch vertical jump as they try to replace veterans Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson.

and people call the NBA a league of thugs.......

I'd love to see the platyer to arrest ratio of both the NBA and NFL.

Pac Man isn't even that good. I was shocked that he was rated so high. I watched basically every WV game for the last 2 years and although he was good for their team i never considered him a top corner. He was a good return guy by no way did he deserve to be a top 10 pick. As far as the article goes, i didn't even read it nor do i care. The Titans are sinking and the rest of the division is getting better. Fisher should find another job cause he's a great coach.

According to Jeff Benedict, 4 out of every 10 NBA players have a serious arrest record. He did a similar study on NFLers and it was 21%. The NFL one was in the late 90's so it may have gone up a bit, but I think the NBA deserves the wrap they get as the thugs of sport.

i think about 70% of titans fans wonder why the hell we took him too. troy williamson or michael williams would look good as titans, and if they were just intent on getting a corner i liked carlos rodgers better than rolle or jones. it pisses me off when the highest pick my team has had in years seems like a bust before training camp even starts. what in idiotic pick.

No doubt about it, the Titans first pick needed to be a corner. It just needed to be Rolle

im not sold on corners that high in general, and im not sold on rolle being a great nfl corner either. rodgers or pac man have the best shot at being big time corners, if they can stay out of trouble, and rolle's rap sheet isnt clean either.

with the new rules emphasis and with receivers being 210-220 just about on average now, a cornerback isnt going to make or break your defense. its an over rated position in the modern game because a guy like samari rolle, one of the best in the league, has no shot of covering a guy like andre johnson. there is no such thing as a shut down corner anymore, so taking a corner that high in my opinion is a waste to begin with. a pass defense is based on confusion and a pass rush, not cover corners.

Of course shut down corners are dead... but not only did the Titans not have a cover corner, they didn't have a respectable corner period. I agree that with the no contact past 5 yards you don't have corners that will shut down a defense, but the Titans secondary was decimated... there was no part of the team that looked that bad... the Titans have Drew Bennett at WR, which is more talent than they had anywhere at corner.

So while sure, the Titans needed a lot of things in the draft, nowhere was the need greater than at CB

the titans have a handful of young corners, woolfolk a first round pick 2 years ago who has been injured, beckham who has started to come around and a couple of rookies from last year. i agree no proven corners, but a first round and a 3rd round pick. i say shouldve let them start and see what they can do, and address it next offseason if need be.

we only had two receivers on the whole roster, bennett, and calico who just missed the entire year to injury. i definately wanted to go receiver over corner, for the reason we literally had no receivers, and because unlike a corner, a receiver can be an immediate upgrade to your offense.

With our suspect DEs and suspect rush we are going to have, our corners will be obsolete anyway so it wont matter if pac man is back there or a seventh round pick is back there.

Eh, thats what you get for drafting a guy with a video game nickname. Let us not forget what happened to Donkey Kong Johnson.

i would have boycotted the lions had they drafted this guy. Rogers or Roll.....I think Millen would have been smarter than Jones

What do you expect from someone played with the Mountainqueers? While at Morgantown, he beat the shit out of some guy with a pool stick. He got off of assault charges and never even saw any suspension time.

I think the only reason he went as high as he did was because he had a cute nickname. It was a memorable name, and it makes him stand out from a pool of average at best people in the draft. Had he been just another black guy from WV, he probably would have been a 4th rounder.

Being from WV I find that line somewhat humorous. I'm sure you meant WVU, though, since he isn't originally from the state.

Yeah, from WVU, and after I typed that, i found how humorous that is, since y'al don't take kindly to black folk down there.
