Texas: August 17 - Odessa Permian High School Football Practice
What the fuck is that? Of all the things they could have done in Texas they go to the high school football practice of a team that hasn't been good in 10 years? I hate you ESPN
Yes... but Odessa Permian sucks now... the only reason they're going there is because they made a movie about them, which is typical ESPN I guess... whatever people know about... IF they were going to go see a HS practice, they should have gone to North Shore or something...

*austin westside or southlake carroll
Westlake you mean?
This may sound racist, but the fact that Westlake is good baffles me... I live here and went to school here and we have maybe 3 black kids in the entire district

sorry, ya, i meant westlake
isn't it the same thing with southlake carroll?
Yeah I think so... usually those kinds of schools are able to compete every year, but Westlake hasn't won a state championship since Brees was here and Southlake Carroll is still pretty new to 5-A. It's hard to keep up that kind of success when schools like Dallas Carter and Galina Park North Shore have average line weight of like 310 pounds. Traditionally whiter school districts (the Woodlands is another one that's doing well right now) have always been small (just like Mojo in the late 80's) and they just get punished when they face inner city schools near the finals.

Of course the fact that Odessa had a book and movie made about them is the reason they chose it. Duh, they want ratings. I don't know why you're surprised by this. I know I'm more likely to tune in to watch a piece about Odessa Permian than some other TX high school I've never heard of.

I do believe I acknowledged that the only reason they're going there is because their school had a movie made about them... but it doesn't mean they can't go to like, oh I don't know, a high school football team that WINS games... the main fan base of Friday Night Lights (part of which was filmed at my old high school) is interested in sports and would watch the Texas show no matter what school they cover... they're gaining maybe 200 extra viewers by going to Odessa and as a result they're going to be filming a bunch of kids who weight 150 pounds. I'd be a hella-lot more interested if they went to an inner city Houston school where they consistantly produce collegiate stars under extreme circumstances... it's a shitty marketing ploy they're using

You're exactly right! I began to feel the same way in the first stop. I thought the entire Sportscenter show would be filmed at their location. Not this bouncing back and forth from location to ESPN headquarters.
