I got this for Xmas and it is stunning. Not only is the normal version of the album good but the demo versions are spectacular. I didn't even realize that there was a beach boys cover on here. I'll have to go back and listen to remind myself.
From what I've read at their site Daydream Nation is going to be the next album to get this same treatment.

They cover some random things. For instance, I just found the cover of "Personality Crisis" they did as a b-side to Dirty. It sucks, but still.

I've been listening to this and Daydream a lot lately for some reason.
A couple of thoughts:
-After years of listening to sonic youth, I am starting to think that the two albums (DDN and Goo) are twins seperated at birth. Fraternal twins, but still. They are very similar feeling albums. I can't put my finger on it, but both are full of sprawling noise with equal parts beauty and punk rock.
-The band most definitely should have touched up the audio quality and released the demos as the actual album. Surely geffen put the pressure on them to release something somewhat marketable, but how great is, say, the Demo version of Mildred Pierce? It blows the super-short version on the album out of the water. The other tracks also benefit from the band not giving a shit at all. I retracked the demos on my ipod and i consider it the album now.
