Isaiah waited all this time for this and i bet the buyout says LB is nto allowed to go to NY
he prepared for this by keeping Herb in the mix all this time. It wouldn't have been to smart to commit to a lesser coach until he knew if he had a chance with Brown or not.

What pisses me off is they have to pay that piece of shit . . .
Why is he a piece of shit, he's old, they won a title with him and went to the finals last year, why shouldn't they pay him?
Why is he a piece of shit? How many coaches negotiate with another organization and rival and "advise" them on who to name for personnel positions while on the team bus going to their own team's practice during the NBA Finals? The only name that comes to mind is Bill Parcells during the 1997 Super Bowl when he negotiated with the Jets while he should have been preparing for the game. How can any of you guys defend this?
The Pistons got to where they got this year despite Brown and his sniffing around other teams during the season, not the other way around.
Also, they shouldn't have to pay him because he has 3 years left on his contract, yet doesn't want to be in Detroit. Detroit, on the other hand, doesn't want to keep someone around who has no desire of coaching there. Everyone knows this. What Brown did, however, was tell the Pistons he'd be back, but couldn't guarantee anything, and knowing full well that the Pistons weren't going to bring him back because of the crap he pulled with the Cavs. This essentially forced the Pistons to either fire him or buy him out. If Brown would have quit (which is what he should have done had he not wanted to be there), the Pistons wouldn't be on the line for $18 million. The thing is, the Pistons had to act now, because the longer this goes unresolved, the harder it becomes to prepare for next season.
I thought if they fire him, and then another team hires him, the Pistons are off the hook for $$ they owe him? (assuming the new contract is for equal or more $$).
also, another coach who pulled a stunt like this was Mike Keenan during the 1994 stanley cup finals.
I think Riley might have done something similar in 1995.

The Pistons weren't "afraid of the 18 million" -- they just don't want to pay their coach when their coach is advising another organization during the playoffs.
Seriously, do you really not see a problem with this? It's borderline tampering.

he said he'd be willing to coach the pistons next season. if the pistons don't want to buy him out then he can coach. there will be a buyout though, and it won't be anywhere close to 18 mill.

I read on SI that the only way they get out from under the contract is if he quits or get bought out. If they fire him, they owe him the money. I could be wrong.
Either way, he's going to collect from the Pistons and sign a lucrative deal with another team, and make out like a bandit. Nothing like being rewarded twice for what Brown's done.

Come on, it's not that simple. Everyone knows he couldn't come back next season, despite what Brown said. How could the players on the team look up to Brown as a leader this coming season knowing he wanted out the year before? The Larry Brown that coached the Pistons during last year's finals is not the same Larry Brown that coached them in 2004. The former wanted to be there.

It was the Cavs. Who subsequently hired Danny Ferry.
Cleveland, when is the last time Cleveland threatened to win anything in any sport 1995?

no matter what jimmy johnson or barry switzer do in the future i'd never call them a POS.
I'm sorry, but I can't, in good conscience, look at Larry Brown the same way again. Yes, Larry Brown did coach the team to a championshiop in 2004, but the fact is, he completely turned his back on the team, the organization, the city, and the fans by doing what he did. Not only does he do this, but he's going to capitalize on it.
Don't get me wrong, he's free to leave the Pistons and go somewhere else to coach or work in a front office -- and I'd have no problem if he would have just done that. But to negotiate with another organization and to go as far as start to assemble its coaching staff and front office while his team was still playing is the ultimate slap in the face. To me, he's a piece of shit.

Are you really justifying what Brown did because of who the other team is? Does it really even matter? I'm simply amazed that some of you are trying to defend Brown, despite what he did.
