I like how the US media is focusing on the tourists more than the people who actually live there

Someone has to run the resorts.
I don't know what kind of living conditions the Yucatan natives stay in, but I'm guessing they aren't hurricane-rated houses.

you know what though B, sometimes I wonder if they do have good hurricane homes. Whenever a hurricane moves through these islands I seem to remember less people killed than in the States. I'm not sure if that's because they have less population or the government doesn't report it.
Let's face it, many of them may have dwellings that while easily destroyed are easily rebuilt. Maybe everyone moves deep inland for a couple of days and then goes back to rebuild?

I can't find any records of death by country ... but this doesn't seem right to me. Seems I always hear double digits for Cuba, etc ... but single digit deaths for the US.
Damage always appears to cost less, but I'm sure that's because Americans have more expensive homes.

That National Hurricane Center disagrees with you.

The US media is famously narcissistic. Shit only matters if it happens to Americans. It's pathetic and infuriating. But it's a fact.

Our media system is retarded in this country. Im sure there will be a story about how Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico will harm the search for that girl in Aruba.

Other countries don't cover these things period, the US Media outlets cover these events to see how they will impact other Americans.

every country is like that, its only huge things like terrorist attacks or the tsunami or whatever that everyone covers it.
you do realize if the news channels covered every single thing that anyone thought was relavent itd take too much time, not that it make sit right, its just not really possible

I've been all over the Yucatan. These people are fucked for the most part. Most of the homes I saw outside of Cancun didn't have windows or doors, had dirt floors, and thatch roofs.
