i had been seeing commercials for the world series starting last night and i figured it would have been of the actual main event tournament, but it was just a reginal or what ever, so i was just wondering how the WSOP actually went, like do they have a few reginals then the main event? and when will the main event be.
all the answers are probably in the WSOP spoilers thread but i would actually like to see it on TV to find out who wins, so please no spoilers, and let me know if this info is in the other thread and if it is i will delete this one after finding out what i need.
thanks much

There is like a bazillion other poker events at the WSOP other than the Texas hold them - no limit ( main event). ESPN shows these other events for 3 months before they get to the main event.

I think they're around the final table right now... it's almost over, but they need time to insert more commentary, pump it up and all that jazz

Yes. You should really check out the WSOP thread in here.
I think ESPN starts showing the main event in October.

The main event finished last Friday, actually early Saturday morning. It was one of the longest final tables ever, almost 14 hours.

one thing i dont really like about it being on tv is that it actually becomes a spoiler on its own, like last night you had jenifer( i think that was her name) short stacked and lee well over a million went the went to heads up, and there was like 10 minutes before it was going to go off, so you knew just by the amount of time left that she had no chance.

No, they are all seperate tournaments. Each tournament has different buy in's and there are a number of different games played. The best analogy I can think of is that the WSOP is like the Olympics of poker. There are different events and they are all still seperate events but still part of the Olympics. The "main event" is the $10,000 buy in No Limit Texas Hold'em, it is basically the Super Bowl of poker and the one event that has the most prestige.

alright, enough with the quoting the person above ya... c;mon naw
alright, as for this... since we've seen one regional table, and there's 4 more, does that mean that the final table is only 5 people? or are they gonna have another tourney to fill the rest of the table. stupid cnn kinda ruined it for me as to who was gonna win. i just saw someone holding money. the pot is 7.5 mil.
No, all of these tournaments that ESPN are showing have nothing to do with the final event where the winner won $7.5 million. These are just other events under the WSOP umbrellla.
ESPN is only showing these other events to milk as much advertising cash as they can because these shows generally get pretty good ratings.

the way i understand it now, the winners of these events like last night have nothing to do with the main even, the main even will be a whole other tounament with a 10k buy in, so the only way the winners of these upcomming events will be at the final table of the main event is if they play thir way in.
im looking forward to all this poker, ive only gotten into watching in the last 5 months or so, but in that time i will watch repeats of the same stuff just because i find it fun to watch, i dont really have an fav player yet, i kinda like chris ferguson, and im usually a fan of the nicer players, and the girl last night was cute as hell and quite a good player, i hope to see more of her, it was the first time i had seen her play last night but she is the kinda player i usually like to see do well.
who are some of your favs?

The only problem I have with ESPN's coverage is they only show the big hands, people watch and think thats all there is to hold'em. Actually the other shows on other networks that do show every hand blow too because they go to commercial after every 2-3 hands.
I like Howard Lederer and Greg Raymer, I don't care for most of the big time players.

Didn't they show the final table in early September last year?
wouldnt it be awesome if all events were televised this way .... just imagine... the world series in february... the superbowl in may or early june
it's ridiculous... somebody needs to outbid espn for this event and give it to us live... and dont say it cant be done because ive heard lederer talk about it a few times now... of course, he wanted to do it payperview live, but he still wanted it live
