I had no idea when the ban in Denver was passed that it would mean rounding up and putting down the dogs that were already there
No, I don't know what else they would do or should do, it just never occured to me that the one's already there wouldn't just be spayed/neutered/licenced and monitored, with no "new" dogs allowed....
So even if the dog hasn't done anything wrong, it's s.o.l.? That blows.
I suppose if the risk/price is the life of a child or person, I don't know what choice they have,....
.... but I didn't realize when they passed the ban it meant the removal of the ones aready there. I don't know why that hadn't occured to me, it certainly should have....

Pit bull typically describes three kinds of dogs — the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. But Denver's ban applies to any dog that looks like a pit bull. The animal's actual behavior does not matter.
Wait..... I thought behavior was why the dogs were banned? Did I miss something?

I missed what you missed as well from the old/original news report - I don't understand applying it to a dog that "looks like" a pit bull either.
Thank you for extracting it from the article.
Perhaps their "intent" was to ensure removal of cross bred animals (dogs that are part American Pit Bull Terrior and part somthing else), where the are not 100% sure of the mix?
We had a dog next to us that was a Great Dane, but from its coloring and mannerisms (bad behavior), I'm 95% sure it was part Great Dane and part Pit Bull (and often abused and definately not properly socialized with people nor other animals). I guess if that dog were in Denver, it would "count" as part of the ban because of the bramble pit-bull coloring?

Breed discrimination is just flat out stupid. I've met Pits, Dobies, Rots, etc that have been some of the nicest dogs I've ever encountered. The disposition of a dog is far more related to their environment than their genetics. They should be rounding up bad dog owners instead.
That said, I'm still in search of a Chow that isn't an ass.

Right on. It's just ignorance and fear on the part of legislators, but what the fuck else is new.
I love Staffordshires. Every one I've ever met is a wonderful animal because they had good owners. Not even great owners, just anyone who is a responsible dog owner can have a wonderful pit bull. For a while, we had pit bulls living on both sides of us, and I never feared for my one year old son. These dogs were so sweet.
Denver is a fucking homo.

I know people who have actually moved to the suburbs in order to keep their dogs. I also know someone who came home one day to find that their dogs were taken out of their backyard while they were gone. It really is ridiculous. And now Aurora, Colorado is also thinking about enacting the same ban.
I like B's reasoning though.. *types with Maxie in his lap*

It is the clumsy breeders and the abusive pet owners that need to be taken to task. But instead they are killing how many hundreds of innocent dogs?
Killing. Dogs. For. Convenience.
It makes me completely sick. Here's an idea: why not sell them off to Gillette so they can use them to test the newst version of "Rain Fresh Scent" before they kill them? Denver can make some money and kill innocent puppies at the same time.

When we were living in Columbus, one of our neighbors had bought their little kid a pit bull puppy. The kid was playing with it in the front yard. There were like 5 men on the porch making the kid hit and kick the puppy, THE PUPPY, in order to teach it to fight. I think we should have those people put to sleep, not the dogs.
