I have no idea where to post this, so I'll just make a thread where you can quote the President or your Senator or whoever ...

Quote:
Our Stupid Congressmen

In today's edition of "our stupid congressmen," we have two contestants. First up is Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ 2) talking about the prisoners he saw in a recent visit to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base; Press of Atlantic City, 7/16/5:

Quote:
"If you start thinking that this is not as horrible and as evil as someone like Hitler was, he sort of had a political rationale about what he was doing that's different from these people that just want to kill everybody," LoBiondo said. "Hitler, in his philosophy, was, you know, he hated Jews, he was murdering Jews and there were some people he liked, but he never went to the level that these people are going to."

LoBiondo apologized later, saying "I was wrong."

Contestant number two: Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) responding to a question from WFLA-AM (Florida) radio host Pat Campbell about how the country should respond if terrorists struck the US with nuclear weapons [audio]:

Quote:
TANCREDO: What if you said something like - if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites.

CAMPBELL: You're talking about bombing Mecca

TANCREDO: Yeah. What if you said – what if you said, we recognize this is the ultimate threat to the United States, therefore this is the ultimate response. I mean, I don’t know, I’m playing – throwing out there some ideas.

Wow. Tancredo released a clarification saying the statements were just hypothetical and " I do not advocate this."

So who's the winner? We'll call it a tie for now.

Remember when conservatives threw a fit over Dick Durbin's comments? Conservatives claimed Durbin's comments were broadcast into the Muslim world and were used to incite violence and hatred against the United States. When a US congressman goes on radio and throws out the idea of taking "out their holy sites," how does that represent us?

Stupid and ultra-patriotic = A slip of the tongue

Smart and anti-administration = Giving aid to the enemy

I don't know if he necessarily had to apologize for that

Yeah. I agree. The second statement in the original post is much worse. I can see what the guy is talking about here - what's the only thing worse than a group of people who want ethnic cleansing and the establishment of a master race? The people who don't want anything here at all but a big black char.

There's only one type of people worse than political extremists - it's the religious ones.

completely disagree. the second statement is just a stupid and ignorant response to a loaded question. the first statement sounds like something a holocaust denier would say. it's putrid.

I agree. As bad as bombing holy sites would be, I don't think it even compares to killing millions of Jews.

even more than that, what's he supposed to say when asked what he'd want if someone nuked the US? for fuck's sake, who here would say something intelligent when asked such a moronic question?

Correct me if I'm wrong ... Presidents have to explain things. Dictators do not. :|
