Please, someone explain to me how supporting the death penalty can be done by a christian. No BS, i wanna try to hear a legitimate explanation.
Here's my general take on it...
Often times people, of whatever religion or culture, will have very basic human emotions--anger, jealousy, lust, etc. In the case of capitol punishment, it's very easy to put yourself in the victim's shoes and say, If it were my mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, etc. who was murdered by some sick bastard, I'd want to see him fried. Why does that criminal deserve to live off of my tax dollars when he's obviously got nothing to contribute to society but pain and suffering? In the case of SOME Christians, passages from the Bible will be used to support their basic human emotions. In this case the phrase eye for an eye is quite often used. Unfortunately for Christians who do not do enough of their Godly homework, eye for and eye is in the old testament. As a Christian (a Christ follower) you are to believe and follow the teachings of Christ for He spoke the word of God. In the new testament, Christ taught us to turn the other cheek. But this does not allow a Christian to believe that it's okay to send a person to the electric chair for killing another human being. Emotions and God's word tend to diverge and many times, because we're HUMAN and fallible, we argue for our emotions.
That's the best argument I can make for something that I do not agree with. Sorry... maybe somebody else has a more enlightened take on it.
