Because election day for national offices is held on a Tuesday (read, workday) during a month that typically has bad weather for about 75% of the country.

I wish election day was a federal holiday.

Why do you need the whole day off when it only takes like 5 mintues to vote?
I'm going to vote one way or another. But I think other people would if they didn't have to work, get the kids to daycare, cook dinner, and hit the gym.

it doesn't take five minutes for everybody. didn't you see the lines of people on election day? some people waited in line for ten or eleven hours to vote.

Fair enough. Still in places like that with long lines having the day off won't increase turn out. Who wants to spend their day off waiting in lines? I know I'd rather work then stand in line all day. I think a better solution would be to have more polling stations.

i really think south park had the right idea... most people really feel like it is a turd sandwich vs. a giant douche.... my theory with people not voting is the one monster with 2 heads... no matter what happens, you get that monster fucking everything up.
but honestly, i vote and im proud of that fact.
