That is interesting, though I'm sure there are plenty of other factros besides just nationalized health care.
you would be right:
"The UN Human Development Index (HDI) measures poverty, literacy, education, life expectancy, and other factors. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare.
The HDI measures the average achievements in a country in three basic dimensions of human development:
-A long and healthy life, as measured by life expectancy at birth
-Knowledge, as measured by the adult literacy rate (with two-thirds weight) and the combined primary, secondary and tertiary gross enrollment ratio (with one-third weight).
-A decent standard of living, as measured by GDP per capita (PPP US$). "
all the Canada bashing ppl do and Canada leads the list more than anyone!
The U$ is a lowly 8

yes norway and sweden have more women than men, who wouldnt be happy there? well gays perhaps..? its like at parties the more women the better the atmosphere..
i think the term 'socialism' here is a bit too much for these countries.. its more a social system, instead of socialist countries. i know sor sure at least the top 5 of these countries have govermental systems that ensure people from ending on the street.
perhaps if the US was divided in seperate states instead of 1 country some states might end higher on this list?

I know it's not really socialism, just making fun of how ppl refer to countries with good social programs like Canada and Sweden as socialist, that's why i put socialism in quotes

social programs can easily be managed if u are not fighting wrong wars, alienating your alies and see 'freedom' as your largest export, but im going off topic here...

Something's wrong with that list. Austraya can't be 3rd. The Aboriginal population's life expectancy is something like 36, they have a major issue with poverty, literacy, and education. Child welfare? There's still no apology for the forced removal of indigenous children from their families for the purposes of assimilation in white society.

Yeah but there are too many other variables that are being looked at. Perhaps aboriginal treatment is what's keeping Australia from being even higher on the list? In fact that is one of the reasons Canada has dropped in recent years, and rightfully so. The Native Canadians live in 3rd world conditions. But that doesn't apply to the entire country, and neither do their literacy rates, life expectancies, or education levels.

With 5 major corporations owning 95% of all broadcast media and news agencies (tv, radio, magazines, newspapers, etc.), and with all news issued by the Associated Press reviewed by the Federal Government for content first... with the monopoly's upon the energy, banking, and telecommunications industries (phone/cable/internet access), anyone who doesn't already recognized the level of Socialism already previlent in this country is either deaf/dumb/blind, or has been living under a rock at the bottom of the ocean for (minimally) the last 8 years.
Time to sit down, watch "Rollerball" (James Caan's discussion with John Houseman), "Logan's Run" (especially the New You scenes and the end discussion with Peter Ustinov)", "Soylent Green" (the entire thing especially the library scenes), and "Planet of the Ape (the original with Heston), and "take stock".
