Yesterday I saw this old "masher" truck (probably a '78 Ford), totally beat up with a confederate flag, and it had a bumper sticker that read 'Had Enough? Vote Republican' What the f*ck?

I don't get the irony . . .
i dunno....maybe b/c republicans seem to be for more federal control while the civil war was fought over state rights vs federal rights (the south was for stronger state rights) i could be wrong

Or maybe it's ironic because the 1865 Civil Rights Bill that outlawed slavery was passed at the behest of the Republican Party and yet, the confederate flag symbolizes a culture the belies the true purpose behind the bill.
And I'm not supposed to have that explained to me?

Okay,
Apparently I should have explained this in the initial post. The make of the car and the confederate flag are irrelavant. The point was the bumper sticker.
What could this person or this party have to be pissed about? They've got their three branches of government, their war, their uber-shady employees, i.e. Karl Rove (since I have to spell everything out). What in the hell are they upset about?
That is all.

That's not ironic -- that's moronic. The guy obviously couldn't give one compelling reason to vote Republican.
If I were telling the story, I would say it's ironic because, despite the fact this guy is driving a shitbox and living like a pauper during a Republican administration, he wants people to keep voting Republican. Now that's irony.

yes but lincoln said he didn't care about slavery, he said if the union had voted to keep slavery he would be for it, too. but since the majority wanted it abolsihed that's how it should be. that's what the civil war was really about, slavery was just a side issue of the bigger issue. the north wanted majority rule, the south wanted states to decide for themselves and the federal government to be there for basic things and protection

I was more just being cynical because I was looking for an explanation of the title of the thread . . .

My guess is that the bumper sticker was placed on the car back when the administration was made up of mainly Democrats.
I guess I find it ironic that you couldn't come to that conclusion yourself.
