I heard about the Cremaster Cycle after Cremaster 3 was finished, but have never had the opportunity to view the films, aside from a short trailer. The films and accompanying sculptures, photographs, and drawings are all the symbolic vision of sexual differientation as seen by Matthew Barney, who conceived basically every aspect of everything conerning the Cremaster Cycle, as well as starring in the films. Only a short film from Cremaster 3 has been released on DVD, although a 528 page tome has been issued that details the entire cycle. All I know is the imagery of both film and sculpture is among the most stunning I've ever seen.

I read an article in the Boston Globe about this when the last one was released (3 I think). It sounded like a bunch of pretentious bullshit, but if that's so I'd probably enjoy it :D

I really know nothing about it. I remember a description of some scene with The Gughenheim Museum and Vaseline, but I forgot the whole deal.

The Cremaster is the muscle that raises and lowers the testicles.

Pretentious or not, look at some of those movie stills and tell me they aren't incredible.

I really want to; I'm waiting for the DVDs to come out.

It may be pretentious, but with those beautiful images, who cares?

I haven't seen it, but I want to. I also want to see Barney's new one, "Drawing Restraint 9," for which his girlfriend, Björk, composed the soundtrack.

What a coincidence. I just recently downloaded a torrent of this. I found Cremaster 1 to be interesting, though very hard to understand (I won't pretend that I did) and maybe even a bit lacking in some regards, but I think Cremaster 2 is an improvement. I haven't watched 3-5 yet, though I will.

Cremaster 3 was the last of the cycle to be released and is held to be the best by many.

I still haven't seen any of them. :(
