This summer is absolutely packed to the gills with movies that I can't wait to see, and this is definitely among them. I loved House of 1000 Corpses when it finally came out in 03 and have been anxiously awaiting this one ever since. Sid Haig, Bill Mosley and the delicious Sherri Moon are all back and the cast also includes Ken "Dawn of the fucking Dead" Foree, PJ Soles, Williams Forsythe and more.

Trailers, pics, updates from Mr. Zombie and more can be found at http://www.thedevilsrejects.com right now. Along with Land of the Dead and High Tension, it's going to be a good summer for horror indeed.

Looking forward to Land of the Dead and High Tension, but I don't know about The Devil's Rejects. House of 1000 Corpses was a huge disappointment. I waited for a long time to see it, thinking Rob Zombie would make an awesome horror film, but all he did was rip off some others and there was too much random stuff (the bunny suits, Dr. Satan, the underground creature, etc.).

If it would have just been about the family (like TCM, one of the movies he blatantly ripped off) it would have been a lot better. Sid Haig and Bill Moseley were great in their roles, and Sheri Moon was some nice eye candy (but annoying), but this movie sucked.

I will agree that HO1KC wasn't very original but for a first writing/directing attempt for Zombie I thought it was a great movie. It had an honest hardcore horror vibe that had been lacking in horror films for a long time and it's success was basically responsible for Lion's Gate pushing Cabin Fever, Saw, High Tension and all the other "real" horror movies they have coming on the horizon. Yes, I thought it was very TCM but in this age of remakes I thought that the movie showed how you could pay homage to the past without doing an outright remake and bringing your own ideas to the genre. Plus it was great watching it opening night and seeing the teeny boppers flee in terror midway through, thinking they were going to see a movie like I Know What You Did Last Summer or something and just being brutalized by it.

On the other hand, if you didn't like the original this movie is supposed to be very different from that one. Supposedly the camp and acid trip feel of the first one is gone and instead they're going to try to make the family become really unlikeable, unlike most horror movie where the villians are glorified in the sequel. Early reviews have been very positive and suggest that this is not a fun movie to watch, very graphic and very mean spirited. As I mentioned before, I think cast is a horror fan's wet dream as Zombie has brought in some folks who haven't seen action in a long time. Alas, to each his own...

I will definitely give The Devil's Rejects a chance because from the trailers I have seen, it does look like a different movie than HO1KC.

While I found HO1C highly disappointing, I think this one looks pretty good.

Well, based on previous response and discussion about Mr. Zombie's films I'm not sure that there's a great deal of interest in this one, but yes, the Devil's Rejects indeed came out today. For those of you who expressed some interest in I strongly urge you to go see it. Genre movies like this do not get their day on the big screen too often so soak it up while you can. And on the other hand, if you don't think you're going to like the movie, then don't waste your time. You're going to fucking hate it and I would love to hear you cry.

This movie is VERY different from House of 1000 Corpses (which I loved) and I'm not even sure if it's fair to call it a sequel. The entire Dr. Satan plotline is gone, as are some of the characters, and the ones that remain are being played in a totally different way here. The cast is a genre fan's wet dream and almost everyone you see in the film, no matter how minor the role, is somebody. Ken Foree gets an awesome part as a pimp, Michael Berryman is his right hand man, even PJ Soles makes a guest appearance. William Forsythe absolutely steals the fucking show though, I've got to hand it to me.

There are still moments of fucked up humor, but for the most part the film is a gritty blast from the past, looking like it actually was filmed back in 78 and someone just now discovered the tapes. Those of you who felt the first film's only influence was TCM might be surprised at how this one plays it. It's a crime/exploitation film to be sure and it gets the vibe down pat. The violence still isn't as brutal as some would have you believe, but the fact that an effort is made to make it seem real makes it as effective as it needs to be. Overall, it's another "love it or hate it" one from Mr. Zombie and while this was very different from House, I'm still definitely in the camp of loving it.

I was amused by Ebert's review: he actually liked it, I guess...

Holy fucking shit. That movie fucking kicked ass.

Rob Zombie totally redeemed himself. This movie had gore, it had tons of laughs, and it had just about the best mix of dialogue and music I've seen since Pulp Fiction.

Hell yeah. I loved every second of it. It even made me like a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. I want the soundtrack now.

The soundtrack is titties and ass. It's got some of the best dialouge from the movie and tons of great tracks I don't think I would have otherwise heard. I hate Skynyrd but that was definitely the best use of Freebird ever. The only downside is it's a fucking dual-disc. I hate those things!

Anyway, glad to hear you liked the movie.

i was very impressed by this movie. I liked House of 1000 corpses but acknowledge the blatant Texas Chainsaw Massacre ripoff, regardless i liked it. But Devil's Rejects was just too bloody good, i never thought i would care about the sadistic murdering white trash devil's rejects heh, but that ending to the movie solidified that feeling. This one ill def buy on dvd

Thought I'd give this thread a bump with my freshly-penned review.

Let me start off by saying I was very, very disappointed with "House of 1000 Corpses". It was overly-fast-paced to the point where it seemed like the only people who could enjoy it were those with ADD. It was also suffering from a lack of gore and carnage, something rather surprising from the horror aficionado that Mr. Zombie is. On top of that, it was a complete rip-off of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974), which is a much better film anyway. All Zombie did differently was add neon lights.

So, my expectations for "The Devil's Rejects" really weren't very high. But I began hearing reviews from people who saw the film before it was released saying that it was very different and much better than "House". And then I saw the previews, which looked promising. So, my expectations went up just a little. However, I was still pretty weary. I just wasn't sure if I could trust Zombie. But I went into the theater with an open mind.
The lights dimmed.
And what I saw was the glorious return of the true horror film. Rob Zombie more than redeemed himself with this brutal, funny, and utterly spectacular film. He worked out all the pacing kinks of "House", took away the flashy neon-light look, and replaced them with a gritty, violent masterpiece of terror.

"The Devil's Rejects" follows the three surviving members of the psychotic murderer family from "House of 1000 Corpses", who have been given the nickname "The Devil's Rejects" by the locals. They're on the run from the police, and along the way, they just happen to engage in murder, blasphemy, and sexual abuse. The exploitation fan inside of me rejoiced. In a twisted away, I loved everything I was seeing. And on top of all of this, Rob Zombie managed to put together just about the best mix of snappy dialogue and music I've witnessed since "Pulp Fiction". He even made me dig "Freebird", and I REALLY dislike Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This has been a truly wonderful summer for horror fans. First, the French terror masterpiece, "High Tension", then George A. Romero's excellent return to form, "Land of the Dead", and now, Rob Zombie's truly glorious coming-into-his-own-as-a-filmmaker, "The Devil's Rejects". Let's just hope Lion's Gate has the balls to give him another film.

9/10

Excellent movie, 1000X better than 'House of 1000 corpses'

I liked 1000 Corpses, but this one blew it away. I think it was great. Side note: Has anyone seen photos of Rob Zombie lately? He looks like a normal guy..jeans and a t-shirt. I think it's funny, he could be your neighbor!!

I LOVED House of 1000 Corpses, but Devils REjects was f^$&ing AWESOME as well.

The ending makes me alittle sad though

I'm going to see it again next monday

It was very different fomr the first one. Less scary and gory and alot more funny IMO.

Baby Firefly is my new idol.
