Could someone explain this enigmatic sport to me?

Also, what's going on with the ashes tournament, I kinda followed it when I was in Europe.

2 people stand in the middle with bats. 11 people from the other team crowd around them and poke fun at their weight/music tastes/dress sense/general ineptness. There's 2 umpires.

Every now and then someone "bowls" a ball and the bloke with the bat hits it.

Technical term for it is: sledging.

Invented by Steve Waugh 8)

an over occurs when 6 balls are 'bowled' by a player (like a pitcher in baseball). There are 3 main types of games 20 over, 50 over and test match. The 20 and 50 over games are played so both teams can bat for 20 or 50 overs each respectively.Whoever gets the most 'runs' wins (A run is sort of like running to 1st base in baseball). The 20 over game goes for about 3 hours the 50 over game for about 7 hours. The test match goes for a maximum of 5 days (about 450 overs) in this game each batting team bats until they all get 'out' and then they all do it again until one teams gets the other one out twice. If a team doesn't get out twice then its a draw and none wins.. This does'nt happen that often.

shit.....does that make any sense????

The main thing you need to know is Australia is the best team in the world at it and has been for a few years.... :)

if you want to know more about PM me.. i played a fair bit

lots of people hate the game but many love it. like me :D

Yipes that makes it sound awfully complicated clint. Let's restrict this to ODI to begin with and then expand on that. Or else, do Tests first and explain ODIs and how it was designed to make it more of a spectator sport.

I might chip in a little later. Don't take this to PMs btw... let people learn!
