I can remember watching some comedian on t.v. talking about the protein diet craze and saying during that period, it was easier to find crack than a carbohydrate.

Instead, my problem was caused by an infection of the heart. In fact, two years ago, I was diagnosed with a condition known as cardiomyopathy, the causes of which are generally unknown. However, in my case we know that the cardiomyopathy was caused by a chronic bacterial infection picked up during an overseas trip some years ago.
though, in all fairness, of course the guy isn't going to say it was diet related. that's his whole empire.

This is true, but to the uneducated majority, it would seem purely diet related.

carbohydrates and all that stuff aren't the real problem. if you want to go to the bigger cause of health problems do something about all the pollution in our air, water, land....and all the overprocessed foods we eat and the growth hormones and antibiotics we put into animals that put puss in milk and make our bodies immune to diseases and whatnot from too much antibodies in our system

Like anything else in life, when taken to the extreme, of course eating nothing but red meat and cheese won't be good for you in the long run. But anyone that took the time to read the guy's book knows that the long-term goal of the diet, after drastically reducing carbs for the first two weeks, is to avoid refined sugars, starch, corn syrup, and enjoy healthy carbs like vegetables, etc. It's not all steak and eggs every day.

True. If the diet promotes healthy eating by cutting out simple sugars, I'm all for it. But the replacement of simple sugars with foods that are heavy in saturated fats is totally counterproductive.

Neither is high fructose corn syrup. Neither are partially hydrogenated oils. Neither are hormones. Neither are refined sugars. One thing I am grateful to this diet for, aside from losing weight, was that it really opened my eyes to just how much of this crap is in everything we eat.

Yeah, because obviously one couldn't enjoy chicken, fish, and other high-protein meats. I don't get why everyone thinks this is the steak and eggs diet. Maybe if you're an idiot it is, but if it's done responsible with a shred of common sense, it's very effective.

You are absolutely correct. But the majority of Americans are completely ignorant and lazy when it comes to their diet. They want a quick fix solution. If you let them think that they can get thin and healthy by eating steak and eggs and cheese that is what they are going to do. They are not going to choose chicken and fish.
That is why I prefer the South Beach Diet when it comes down to these fad diets. It explains the healthy aspect of low carb, but it also promotes low fat.
