I'd never heard of them before I went to Europe, but they have a LOT of hype there so I got curious. I saw Pete Doherty stumble around on Live 8 and was a bit turned off, but I checked it out anyways. i downloaded Up The Bracket and the libertines, I think after a partial listen to each, I prefer the self-titled a bit, although from the reviews I've read, Up the Bracket seems to be more critically acclaimed. I'll give them a few more listens but they seem pretty good.
Oh, I read a bit about Pete Doherty after Live 8, the guy is a train wreck and a half.

great, great band. Probably my favorite to listen to drunk. As far as singles go, you really can't beat any of theirs. And yeah, pete is a bit of a mess. Over in england, apparently he's been called "Kurt Cobain with talent."

But not even Kurt would have walked on stage smoking a lighter...

If Soundgarden is perfectly fine with playing together with Tad Doyle on vocals, why the fuck is he wasting his life promoting the single worst album of all time? Holy shit, he has to be the stupidest motherfucker on earth.

Ive given the two albums a few listens. It's some really good stuff. Probably my favorite in the genre, lyrically stronger than The Strokes (and a bit more varied).

LIAM HITS OUT AT PETE
LIAM GALLAGHER has revealed that PETE DOHERTY has blown his chances of supporting OASIS after failing to turn up to one of their gigs.
Doherty failed to show up to a recent gig at Southampton where he was due to support them with Babyshambles.
Doherty claimed he was unable to return from France in time after attending fashion designer Hedi Slimane’s birthday. Oasis subsequently replaced Babyshambles’ for their planned second support slot at Milton Keynes with The Zutons.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Liam said: “That’s where the relationship ended. What we’re not going to do is give him a second chance.
“It’s not a question of professionalism. It’s much more simple than that. This is the greatest group in the world and what we’re not going to do is let anyone, Pete Doherty, Liam Gallagher or Elvis, fuck it all up.”
ELTON: 'PETE WAS NERVOUS'
ELTON JOHN has claimed that PETE DOHERTY’s nerves were to blame for the quality of his performance at LIVE8, and described the BABYSHAMBLES singer as “a mess”.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph today (August 4), Sir Elton said: “It's really sad. He's so young I don't think that he's going to listen to anybody. But I don't think the people around him set a good example, which is a shame.”
John revealed that he and Pete practised their cover of ‘Children Of The Revolution’ for the London leg of Live8 until it was “tip-top, perfect.”
“I have to be very discreet what I say, but I just think he was really nervous on the day,” he said. “But, you know, he had his chance to do it and he came on… at least he looked great!"
PETE QUESTIONED BY POLICE
PETE DOHERTY has been questioned by police over an alleged assault.
The singer arrived by appointment at a police station in north London yesterday(August 3).
He was quizzed in connection with allegations over an incident in a pub last week.
He’s been bailed until next month.
