Has anyone been watching the "reality" show Brat Camp? As soon as I started watching it, it reminded me of something I once read that Eddie said about parents watching too much Hard Copy and getting freaked out that their kids are going to join a satanic cult.

Under each of the kids names it says what they're "problem" is and under this one kids name it says "Angry Punk". He's been fighting in school because the jocks are beating him up and his mom sent him to some weird mindfuck camp in the desert for two months! There is a whole bunch of other kids who are there for equally ridiculous reasons.

is anyone else totally weirded out by this show?

ok. yes! i watch it from time to time. (but i turn it off ealry to catch "inked)

that show it serisously some sort of fucked.

and what psychologist would brand someone an "angry punk" or "hostile outcast"?

not to mention the 14 yr old who is hyper.. he needs oteb on medication for his ADD, not sent to brat camp! what the fuck!

I would take that description with a grain of salt as well. If you watched any of the back story on that kid, he has a lot of problems and doesnt do well in school while his twin brother is obviously like the family superstar and is big asshole about it too. Now, I dont have a twin but I was the youngest of six kids and I got teased so much that each one of them can probably recall a time when I tried to stab them (with a butter knife, i'm sure).

I just dont get what kinds of problems any of these kids have that couldn't be helped with a little bit of old-fashioned therapy

It definately is therapy and it seems like kind of an amazing experience for some of them. But its a question of whether the ends justifies the means. If you have to lie to your kid and have them driven by strangers to an unknown place in the desert in the middle of them winter to help them get over what appears to be some pretty basic angst-y teenager issues, that is probably more your problem then the kids'. So even if I went through a program like that and found that in long run it was a positive experience, when I got home I would still never trust my parents again and would work doubly hard to hide my feelings from them.

Also, after doing a little research I found out the 60 day program costs over 19,000 dollars. Which says a lot about what the motivations were for the people running this school and why they decided to participate in a nationally-aired reality show. Even taking into consideration the 2:1 student teacher ratio, i can't see anything about living in a teepee and eating beans and rice for two months to justify that cost.

I find this show annoying and boring.

I agree with you guys that this "camp" is not necessarily the best thing for them. Most parents have no idea what their kids are doing behind their backs. One of the kids parents thought that the only drug he has used is marijuana. Then, ABC asked the kid what drugs he used. "Weed, shrooms, crack, lcd." How can you not know about your kids using that stuff.

The show is typical of what America is these days. If I pay a bajillion dollars, it will fix my families problems.

I don't think my parents have a clue what drugs I've done. Seriously who tells their parents how much acid they've done?

As a glaring example of it's success:

Teen Charged With Hate Crime
August 3, 2005 — A troubled teen who stars on the ABC reality show "Brat Camp" is back to his troubled ways.
Now that he's back home in Winton, it seems Isaih Alarcon is in trouble again.

The teen was arrested over the weekend and charged with a hate crime after the Merced County Sheriff's Department says he drew a swastika and derogatory words in front of his neighbors house.

Alarcon was released from juvenile hall on Monday.

I would say "isiah" is right up there with "dwayne" and "lamar" as my "Names Least likely to draw a swastika." catagory.
