She was traumatized to find out that I would sell stuff on e-bay from an ex that became famous. What do you think? Would you sell? Is it too personal? Should I respect that fact that we all wrote stupid shit when we were 15? It's not like he was criticizing what she wrote, he was just selling momentos.
Discuss.

Tough call. Some chick just put out a book of letter she wrote back & forth with Tupac while he was in prison. Tupac's mom supports it.
Life can be awfully strange for celebrities...but at $1M per episode of Friends, I think Jennifer Aniston should be able to deal with a couple of stupid notes that she wrote when she was 15 being leaked.
Tough call though. I wouldn't probably want it happening to me.
If I felt they were at all private, and I had no ill will against the person, I certainly wouldn't do so.
I probably wouldn't do it even if I didn't like the person if they were of a personal nature. I guess I think that love notes, letters etc. that were written to me are kind of a part of myself too. It would be like selling a little bit of your own life, not just theirs...

My wife made me throw away most of the old letters I got from girls when we moved in together. Actually, it was really just one girl, I have stuff from the others.
What I really wish I had was the ones that I wrote.
I wouldn't sell them, because I'd want to keep them for myself, but I'd show them to all my friends.

that's kinda how I feel.
If you've kept them at all (unless you're keeping them only because you know the person is getting famous and you want to sell them someday) you've kept them because when you read them they still make you feel something.
why sell that feeling?

I have a box of letters from my boyfriend from 15-18 yo. He actually asked for the letters back when we broke up...mostly because he wanted to be a writer and he knew there was good shit in those letters.
If my ex ever published and became famous, I'd consider publishing those letters, but only with his permission.

I don't know if I would sell letters. Little gifts, quick love notes, something that was obviously from my ex w/o baring her little 15 yo heart ... I might make a buck off that stuff.

I don't think you can legislate morality, that would like, iunno, banning gay marriage or something. So this is kind of action is simply a dick move motivated by vengeance. I wouldn't worry about it because anyone willing to sell personal effects of another person to capitalize on ones suffering is viewed as a shitbag by the majority of us.

It's not really a legislation question ... just a morality debate.
