So I'm digging on these Mastodon albums I downloaded, I expected them to be more monolithic and crushing but, it's good times none the less. I'm really impressed with their drummer, and this coming from a person who generally misses all the drum parts. I guess you'd call them "experimental sludge" ? something like that. I picture them hanging out down south with Eyehategod or Crowbar doing drugs and cutting themselves up or something, but they're from Atlanta I guess, weird.

2 of the guys were in Today is the Day. They played on the album In the Eyes of God. Incidentally, Paul Booth did the cover artwork for that album. He is awesome. Google him if you want to see some fucked up artwork.
Brann is a great drummer and frankly, I wouldn't have near as much interest in that band without him. They reissued Remission with a live DVD and a bonus track of a Thin Lizzy cover. Check it out.

IMO Brann is one of the best drummers going right now. I read an interview where he talks about Stewart Copeland and Phil Collins being his biggest influences and I really dont think he was bullshitting. He kinda does a lot of the same type of rythmic stuff they did.

Ol' Nessie has one of the best intros ever.

I can definitely see the influence from Copeland.

Mastodon is good stuff. I need to listen to Leviathan on a long car ride, and soon!

Looks like I'm on a kick of bumping old geg threads.

Anyway, I finally got around to checking out these guys today after meaning too for a long time. The news of the Josh collaboration and GoS's recommendation finally made it happen.

I guess at this point all I can say is what most of you have said, Leviathan fucking rocks. :bammer:

Basically, the power of the riff compels me.
