6 Aug 2005 Robert Smith has revealed initial details for the band's 15th studio set.
The Cure will release their 15th studio album, the follow up to 2004's critically acclaimed self-titled release, during April 2006, soundgenerator can reveal.
Speaking this evening before a packed press tent at the 11th annual Benicassim Festival, Spain, the seminal rock vocalist revealed the band plan to begin recording this winter.
"We're recording October, November & December," he revealed to press, "and the new album will be released on my birthday." Smith's Birthday falls on April 21, which lines up a spring release date for the new set. No further details were mentioned at time of press.
2004's 'The Cure' continued the remarkable return to form found on 2000's 'Bloodflowers'. For a band many had thought were lapsing into mediocrity, the set was hailed as the band's best since 1989's 'Disintegration'.
Smith added he plans to work with core Suzie and The Banshees songwriter, and previous Cure producer, Steve Severin later this year.
The band have just taken to the Benicassim stage tonight (23:47CET), and plan on delighting the 30,000 crowd with a dark headline set, leaving off some of their biggest hits.

Great to hear of that, no matter which day they release it. The last album was great.

I don't think any of their recent stuff is essential, but it is nicely listenable. I'm glad they still make music.
They need to hurry up with the rest of those reissues...I've been holding off on buying The Top and Kiss Me, due to the amazing remastered sound quality on the first 4 deluxe versions.

the last record sucks.
That's your opinion, and I respect that, although maybe next time you could explain it a little further. However, I have to disagree with you.

i'm definately in the minority but i think both bloodflowers and the cure are their best records after disintegration and kiss me x3. it's great that they're finally breaking out of the 'new album every 4 years after we break up again' mold. robert needs someone to help him make the tracklists though so we don't keep getting amazing songs like this morning relegated to b-sides.

I thought the last album sucked because it sounded like Cure-by-numbers. I realize that was sort of the point because it was like an overview of every sound or style the they had ever done, but I still think that was a dumb idea. To me, it's just a cleverly disguised re-hash. That said, it did have three songs that I think are some of The Cure's best ever: Labyrinth, Anniversary and The Promise. And the b-sides from that album were outstanding. If they had been put on the album in place of some of the weaker tracks, I would rank it much higher.
The remasters are very cool but I can't help but notice that the sound isn't much of an improvement over the original releases. I did a side by side comparison (using Sennheiser headphones) with Pornography and to me it just sounded like the volume had been upped and that's all. It didn't really sound any crisper.
Really? I thought the self titled was very good, had a very nice clean tight sound to it. And the Promise simply rocked. Will be looking foreward to this

I'm not a huge Cure fan, but I don't recognize those titles. They're not new songs, are they?
