One of the finest works of American drama. Working on it has only made me realize is brilliance even further. And John Hale and John Proctor are two of the greatest characters, ever.

We did a class production of this when we studied it, and I had to be Abigail. She was the one who was having an affair with John Proctor. I had to put on my sexy voice... So embarrassing!
I liked this play, but I prefer "Death of a Salesman" from Arthur Miller. He was a great, great writer, evident in "The Crucible" and "Death of a Salesman." It was amazing to read each of them and compare the content of each story. One captured the hysteria and idiocy of the Salem Witch Trials as compared to the sheer outrageousness of McCarthyism and the other spoke of the American Dream and what it's become. The former angered the reader as we witnessed the stupidity that led to many deaths, and the latter saddened us as this common man tries to rediscover his dreams and fails. Miller had a good mind for realistic fiction and injecting historical aspects into his work, but he inflicts emotion into the reader, which is his best attribute as a writer.
