The Band backs Dylan and performs their own dongs on Before the Flood...
the only one of the five that doesn't sing in The Band is Garth Hudson, but only because he's a bad ass at every other instrument...
SO the other's singing are Levon Helm (the drummer), Rick Danko (bass), Robbie Robertson (lead guitar) and Richard Manuel (piano, etc.)...a lot of the time different members sing different songs, but sometimes they all sing...really it doesn't matter just know that The Band is the best band ever...

did robbie ever sing lead vocals??? i always thought he only did backing. of course, my knowledge of them is limited to the basement tapes, greatest hits, before the flood, and the last waltz(dvd).

so i finally am listening to his stuff, while paying attention.
i like it so far. however my question is; who the fuck told him it would be a good idea for him to play the harmonica on songs? it's out of tune, its misplaced, its just god awful. If his lyrics weren't as strong i really don't think he'd ever have become "Bob Dylan".

I think the harmonica is a little overpowering on Blonde on Blonde. Other than that, I enjoy his harmonica playing.

harmonica is pretty key in a lot of folk music. i'd guess it's as simple as that.
i'm a pretty big fan of the harmonica in most of his songs, actually.

I hate to sound like a broken record here, but I would highly reccommend "The Bootleg Series Vol. 4." As for a studio album, I'd go with Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde, or Bringing it All Back Home, which gives you the best of both electric and acoustic Dylan.

Agreed. However, I agree with someone who thinks its overpowering on "Blonde on Blonde" in parts. I was listening to "Pledging My Time" in the car, and the harmonica playing nearly burst my ear drums.

haha yeah, i love that though. makes me want to turn it up louder.
blond on blonde is a GREAT driving album.
