Like Beltre or Green would have helped?
the answer is yes.
combined the LA third basemen (all 5 of them so far) have hit .269/7HR/55RBI...... Beltre would have doubled those stats had he remained in LA. as it is in a new league and being injured at the start of the yr hes hitting .253/14HR/60RBI. Had he remained in LA where he finally grew comfortable under tim wallach as hitting coach he would be the Beltre who was mvp runner up last yr
and JD Drw as predicted by every living being, is injured and out for the year AGAIN. nice way to throw 55mill to a bum who NO TEAM would ever have given that much money to and who is hurt every year.
JD Drew, for $55mill, played only 70 games, hit 15HR and 36RBI and is out for the year, and has 4 more years left.
Greenie is still playing, and getting paid by Depo, and is hitting .285/16/58 with 27 doubles. And he was in the last yr of his contract so his money would have been off the books in 2006.
so yes, the dodgers would be better if they had a their mvp regualr third baseman everyday instead of a rotation of 5 guys, one a mexican league castoff, and shawn green, who is still playing rather than glass joe drew

If there's a case for ANY player on steroids, it's Beltre.
was there a significant change in his appearance at all?
I'm curious.

no there wasnt. Beltre always showed signs of being a star, but Tommy Lasorda rushed him to the bigs after not even a 1/2 yr of AA ball...in the 2nd half of 2003 Beltre finally put it all together, mostly due to working with Tim Wallach to correct his swing. HE started putting up big numbers in late 2003 and he exploded in 2004.
There are a few reasons he is struggling in SEA. one is he was injured in ST and rushed back.
Also, he was 15 when LA signed him and he grew up in the dodgers organization and it took him a while to get comfortable with his ability. Being in a new environment where he admits hes out of place in the very low dominican population of seattle, the new parks, the new pitchers, and the pressure of that contract are probably weighing too heavily this year.
Id like to think in 2006 Beltre will regain his form and be the star Seattle expects him to be. I just think its a shame after developing this guy for all these years, hes gone from LA. Boras handled the negotioations as fucked up as one could have, and Depodesta didnt have the experience to deal with this type of negotiations. both are at fault for Beltre being in Seattle. He had said several times in ST that he was crushed to leave LA, that he never wanted to leave. and the dodgers preach home grown talent but allowed him to go and then spent FA money as unwisely as the mets used to.
but Beltre is not on steriods, i can almost guarantee it, as much as a fan watching a player can. his body didnt get huge overnight, he always hit big home runs even while struggling to find his groove, and once Wallach fixed the hole in his swing and made him stay back on pitches longer, Beltre put it all together.
