this is one thing ive never really understood... why do people not like to tell where their vote went?... if someone has conviction in their selection, why hide it?

I think its more about exercising your right to keeping your vote a secret than a feeling of shame about who you voted for. There was a time when voting was an even bigger fraud than it is now (anyone see "gangs of new york"). There is power in saying "This is mine and it has nothing to do with you".
