I think the show's genius. Are there any Arlen lovers here?

I really love it, in fact it was the inspiration for one of my former avatars.

I feel the main reason why some people don't like it is because it's not full of jokes every 5 seconds like The Simpsons and Family Guy.

I really like it, my wife loves it and we watch the reruns on FX all the time. I think it's really brilliant.

There has been a thread on this before though. If someone finds it, I'll merge threads.

I don't know. I don't really find it funny at all. I think it's because the characters are so annoying. Excluding Hank's buddies, i can't think of one person on that show that I like.

But the annoying people are true to life. That's the funny thing about it. Peggy's a Spanish substitute teacher that thinks too highly of her position. Bobby is corny and has a feminine side. Con pushes his daughter. Connie just wants to be a kid. LuAnne is just clueless, but it's hilarious. Hank is a straightshooter that tries to hide his feelings.
The characters are so great. You just have to learn to love them.

Very true, I've known people like most of the characters on the show, especially Hank, Dale and Boomhauer. I'm sure Mike Judge based them on people he knew, you can just tell.

I think it is a great represenation of middle class small town life without being overly positive or degrading. It is a very smart show despite the characters seeming very clueless. As others have mentioned, I know just about all those characters in real life, and stop off at any good BBQ restaurant in small town Texas and you can find all of them at one place.
