Don't know how many on this board know about, much less care about the longstanding softwood lumber dispute between Canada and the United States.
Thought I might get a feel for some opinions anyway.
Do any of the right-leaning individuals on this board have the ability to offer any resonable defense of the U.S government ignoring WTO rulings in this case?
anyone want to educate me as a Canadian as to why our lumber should be an issue of any concern to U.S citizens?
Personally I would love to see this giving Canada some leverage in a future attempt to leave NAFTA behind. It does us no good. I know for certain that many Americans have also been negatively affected by the aggreement.
As a right leaning individual I can tell you this, our government has a huge double standard when it comes to protectionism. It's stupid and (in theory) against what conservatives stand for. I don't understand it all outside of the power of lobby groups.
I like the idea of free trade between the US and Canada. Regardless of the Iraq war, we are allies and friends and no barriers (trade or otherwie) should be setup to prevent us from being so in the future.
