We've had a couple of these before but i figured we'd start a new one.

I made a deposit to a new website cause betonsports was pissing me off. Their bonuses suck and the payouts are annoyingly slow unless you do it by Western Union which is always a pain in the ass.

First bet of the thread: Jets minus 2 tonight over the Vikes. Pennington is supposed to play most of the first half and the Jets always seem to play well in the pre-season. Plus the game is on TV so what the hell, i threw $100 on it

Which sports site and what are the bonuses for signing up? I've used betcom.com for the last year.

I've been holding off for ponying back up cause I'm afraid I'll bet on the Phigting Phils.

i usually negotiate more bonus money by talking to them on the phone. I just signed with betbbb.com and they gave me 20% plus a coupon to "get out of your bet at halftime"(which seems like a great find if i bet a ton on a game and it looks hopeless at the half). They started me out at 10% then i got a supervisor on the phone and got it to 20% if i agreed to put another $500 into my account.

I heard heritagesports.com is the best one out there right now but i was happy with the bbb site so i didn't bother checking heritage out.

ahhh! not teasers! I always vow not to bet those ever again but i always end of doing a couple per weekend. It's really the dumbest bet but sometimes i can't resist.

I hit with the Jets last night, hoping to double up by the end of the night.

Took the over(9.5) in the Yankees/Chi Sox game for $50
Also took the Packers plus 5.5 for $50

I'll probably take the Giants tonight even though the Panthers have won 11 consecutive pre-season games. I'm gonna reserach some more info on the game and post my bet later.

I lost the Yankee over, put a bit more on the Packers. I went a little nutty and made a lot of bets after that.

I put another $100 on the Giants plus 3

Under 35 Jags/Bucs - $50

Texans plus 3 - $50

Ravens minus 3 - $50

Bears to win game(plus 210) - $25 to win $54

okay clubber... i have to ask

basically, one word of wisdom i have heard from all successful gamblers is "dont bet on more than one or two games a night/afternoon"... myself, i have buried the account a few times in my gambling history for not taking this advice... i used to bet on nearly 20 college football games on saturday, 10 nfl games on sunday, and 5-10 college bball games a night (20+ on saturdays)...

anyway, you seem to bet on a plethera of games night-in, night-out... doesnt the juice just bury you... i mean, i once calculated the juice i was paying (granted i bet anywhere b/w $30 and $100 a bet) and it came out to costing me nearly 300 bucks a week... so, i learned (and continue to learn) the hard way not to bet too many games... how is it possible you stay afloat when you are betting so many match-ups... any gambler knows that if you can hit 55%+ of your bets, then you are doing pretty damn well.. unfortunately when you take the juice into account (5% or 10% depending on your book) the percentages are against you... are you just betting a lot now cause it's early and you have that itch, or will you play this many contests throughout the year?

nobody can resist them...

like Artie Lang says, the best bet is to take the over. It's the closest thing there is to a "low stress" bet.

I stopped by a friend of a friend's apartment on thursday night and the guy bets big. he told us when we walked in that if he hit the over on the Twins Vs (not sure who they were playing) he would win 10K (on a 3 game parlay). the game was already in the 7th and he needed two more runs but covered in the bottom of the 8th. The guy didn't even seem happy for winning 10 G's. Being only Thursday, i am trying to find out if he was still up for the week at the end of last night.

You know what it is? He was probably happy for winning that much but most of the fun is the "rush" of not knowing if you're gonna win or not. Putting a bet in is just as much of a rush as winning it. And if you need 2 runs in 2 innings to win $10,000, that's about as high as you're gonna get. The winning is almost a letdown if you can believe that. It's obviously better than losing, but for some gamblers once you win the "high" is gone.

I agree with basically everything you said. The juice will ruin you if you make a shitload of bets. Most of those bets i made the other night was just fucking around. I usually bet about 4-5 times as much on a game as i did on saturday. I haven't really bet on sports since the NBA finals so i just wanted to get some action going. Plus my big bet was the Giants and they won, the other bets basically cancelled each other out.

GHowever, college football is a different monster for me. I can usually see about 5-7 games that i really like in one week. The linesmakers don't have as much skill in the college games as the NFL cause there are so many more teams to deal with. I've been scouting the college teams for about a month now and i think i'm as ready as ever to win some big bucks. The first 2 games of the year should be where i can take most advantage of the lines. By mid-season i'll have an even better idea of how good/bad a lot of these teams are. watching 10 college games on a saturday and scouting those teams helps a lot.

The NFL is extremely tough. The oddsmakers are just too good and a lot of the games come down to a bullshit TD or some turnover ran back for a score. I don't have nearly the same amount of confidence in the NFL as i do college. That's why i like the pre-season cause i can get info on how long a QB is gonna play, what coaches insist on winning pre-season games etc... Most bettors just bet the game not knowing what is going on and they end up jumping lines to my favor.

I do know some successful bettors who bet 5 games a night, it's not always a crapshoot for them. I'm not even close to their level but i'm getting better every year. Check out the book "The Odds" by Chad Millman. He follows some bettors around for 6 months and it's really interesting to see their betting philosophies. One guy bet almost every game on the board and won about $300,000 a year. A great read.

what is your opinion on the 30+ point spreads you often see in college?

I have one friend who always takes the 'dog, and I have another who always takes the favorite - but neither will tell me their results over time!!!!!

I agree with your friend who always takes the dog cause the lines always seem to be jacked up for the favorites in those huge point-spread games. I usually stay away from those though unless i see an edge somewhere. What i usually do is look at all the match-ups and make my own lines for the game. Then i look at the paper and if i see a 4 point difference in my line and the oddsmakers then i usually bet that game. For the NFL it usually has to be a 2 point difference because the lines are so dead on.

it would seem that that the dog would almost always be a good bet in these cases, simply because of all the $$ likely placed on the big school. I'd love to see a study of what the ATS record is for all teams facing 30+ or even 20+ spreads.

i do the same thing... problem is, the nfl linesmakers and me are almost always within a point or two of eachother... but when i find myself way off, i tend to go against my line, because i know the linesmakers know more than i do
