well i move in on friday, classes start monday. i have no idea what to expect. i'm attending a pretty small school (around 1000 kids), and i don't know what is gonna happen. i'm only about 45 minutes away from home, far enough where i wont be expected to go home, but close enough that i can if i want to. the way my class schedule looks i'll have plenty of free time (only one class on friday 8:30 to 10:30, and no class until 12:30 on tues and thurs), so i dont know what i'm gonna do with myself. i'll probably end up taking the train into the city and just hang out or go to ball games, or go to my g/f's. with my easy schedule i have a feeling i'm gonna get into some trouble

what do you guys remember from your first days of college? what should i look out for?

thanks!

I doubt I'd be able to handle it.

I would tell you what I remember about my first few days of college...if only I could remember them.

i remember that it took me way too long to realize why i was there in the first place. I remember ending my first semester with a 1.9 and my second with a 3.5. My advice would be, first, don't miss any classes, especially mornings. i went to a fairly expensive college (for me) and calculated how much i was paying for each individual class each semester and it blew my mind, so i started interacting with my professors a lot more, almost as if I were making them earn the money that i'd be paying off for the next 15 years. Second, study in the library, there are plenty of chicks to look at and you'll get a lot more done than in a noisy dorm room full of pj songs and bongs. (some nights are an exception  ) And on nights that you get everything done and there's lots of stuff going on, party your fucking ass off. I went to a school with about the same amount of people. My last bit of advise based on the size of your school is to mind your own business and you'll have a lot more friends than enemies. Small schools tend to make everyone think...this place sucks because it's so small and i know everyone and everyone knows my business. Try to stay away from that crowd, because all they'll do is drag you down. Have fun and be yourself. Good luck!

Sincerely,
Dad

there's a time and place for everything, and that place is called college. 8)

But seriously, don't slack off right away, you'll have plenty of time to party. If you're gonna fail out it most likely will be after your first year. make sure you go to class and get decent grades. Work on getting laid and experimenting with drugs in your second year.

I start at Towson U. next monday. I've been in a two-year community college for the last four years, so there's a nice feeling of forward momentum. My advice to you is to GO TO CLASS.

today was my first day of classes at the university. this is what i learned.

if you're taking a bus, make sure you're at the stop very early. your watch does not match the bus driver's watch.

bring a book to read and/or an mp3 player. the bus will drop you off way too early to class or teachers will let you out early and you won't really have enough time to do anything but sit and read for a bit.

even though you won't need them, bring your books with you. most of the teachers will have your books on hand, and you'll never know when they've decided to switch books. if you have the books with you, you can compare covers at least, or show the teacher what you've got and see how it differs.

take a map with you. you're not a dork if you do. i got off at the wrong stop and walked down the wrong road and ended up on the agricultural side of my school. i'm glad i had the map to get me back to where i was going.

people in your orientation will have probably told you to sit in the front row of your class so your teachers will get to know you and things. seriously, don't. no one in my classes sat in the front row. unless you want to sit by yourself, it's not a good place to be. try the middle of the room.

even though it's probably warm where you are, bring a sweatshirt or a light jacket. i had two classes in one hall and two classes in another. the first hall was like an icebox and the second one was like an oven. layers are your new friend.

leave for class early, just this once. you'll need to figure out how long it's going to take you go get to class with all the people and maybe even where your exact classrooms are. while it's probably understood that people will be late, just leave a little earlier and make a good impression.
